General

  • Only post /Turn-in Forms in this thread.
    All other posts go in the Challenge Discussion thread.
  • Please do not delete your post after g up; it messes up the rest of the posts/links.
    If you want to withdraw, please replace your post content with "Withdrawn" or leave it as is.
  • Please carefully read the rules, "How to Play" guide, and FAQ before asking questions.

Forms

  • Your form must be posted in this thread for you to be considered a challenge participant.
  • Each manga can only be used once within the challenge.
  • You must read at least the last 5 volumes or 50 chapters (if not physically published) of the manga you choose to use for the challenge (if you're not reading it in its entirety) during the challenge period.
    If the manga is still being published, read until the most recently published chapter.
  • Manga, Manhua, Manhwa, One-shots & Doujinshi are allowed.
  • Light Novels and Novels are not allowed.
  • Re-reading is allowed.
  • Please specify the dates you started/completed each manga in the form.

Turn-In Forms

  • Once you have completed the challenge, use the turn-in form and post it as a new reply.
  • Turn-ins should be posted once and they shouldn't be deleted afterwards.
  • Confirm all items/details are correct before posting. Once you turn-in your challenge, you can't continue working on it.

Forms

  • You can change your form freely until you turn-in.
  • Only one form can be worked on at a time.
  • Only your first completed attempt will be added to the list of participants who completed the challenge.
  • For posted forms that are unreadable or missing much of the required information, you will be asked to fix this before we proceed with the inspection.
  • Use a readable font size/color.
  • More info about the challenge in the "How to Play" guide.

How to Play the Manga Reading Challenge!

This year's challenge will be lotería-themed.
  • Lotería is a lottery game of chance, where players are given a card of random numbers and pictures and try to complete lines to win money.
  • Here you will choose a number of 4x4 cards with 16 items.
  • To finish the challenge, you need to complete the amount of cards required for your chosen difficulty.

g Up
  1. Go to the Sign Up Code post, copy the provided code in its entirety, and paste it as a new reply to this thread.

  2. Obtain your lotería card(s) by first clicking here. To get a new card, click the button with three lines in the bottom right of the page and click "New". Copy and paste the url(s) of your card(s) into your code.

  3. Edit your post to replace the capitalized text with your information.

  4. The following fields should be filled in now: Link to your list and Completed Manga.

  5. Choose a difficulty based on the number of cards you want to complete (and the number of manga you want to read)

  6. Edit your post to fill in your chosen difficulty.

    DATE is when you started/finished each manga.
    ID_NUM is found in the manga entry's URL. MANGA_TITLE is the main title of the entry.

  2. Continue completing challenge items until you have enough for your given difficulty. , each manga can only be used once.

  3. A card consists of sixteen squares each with its own picture. Each picture represents three items. Pick one of the three items to complete for each square. If you have two or more cards that share some of the same pictures, then you may use the same item for each time that picture occurs in a square on a card or you may use one of its other items for each time it appears.


  4. The items do not need to be completed in any specific order, but it is easier to plan ahead of time what you're going to read. You can work on multiple cards at the same time.

  5. If you use a title other than the main title, please add it between parenthesis after the main title.

  1. Once all your items are completed, that all information in your form is filled in.

Challenge List with Explanations


  • Screenshots are suggested as evidence for some items which require information that could change by the time/after you turn-in.
  • The provided suggestions are manga that we approved to be valid.
    You can still choose to use titles not tagged with the required elements at your own risk.
    If it isn't apparent based on cover/description/character description, you may provide some sort of proof for it (for easier inspection).
    That goes for info (like age, etc.) that might not be apparent, as well.
  • MRC Staff Jokers: Jokers are staff's picks you can use in your challenge as a "wild card". A joker does NOT need to fulfill the requirement, it is always valid.
    The amount of jokers you have available depend on the difficulty chosen.
    (Novice: 1 Joker, Rookie: 2 Jokers, Pro: 3 Jokers, Expert: 4 Jokers)
    Leave them under MRC Staff Jokers in your form, and delete the ones you didn't read when turning in.
    However: You don't have to use them as wild cards (and thus a replacement).
    If you want to read and fit them into a requirement, you can read as many of them as you want and the restriction above won't apply in this case.

  1. Read a manga that was recently reviewed. - Recently reviewed means reviewed in the 3 months prior to starting it.
  2. Read a manga by an author/artist who has published 5 manga or less.
  3. Read an ongoing manga.


8 - La Botella

  1. Read a Delinquents manga.
  2. Read a manga that started publishing in the 80s. - (1980-1989)
  3. Read a manga based on a novel/light novel/web novel.


9 - El Barril

  1. Read a manga that is on one of the active MRC staff's Plan to Read list. - Note which staff member it was as well as the date, or add a screenshot.
  2. Read a manga with an antihero or villain main character. - Suggestions: Anti-Hero/Heroine | Villain Protagonist | Reincarnated as the Villain/ness
  3. Read a manga that is not ranked. - Ranking must say N/A.


10 - El Arbol

  1. Read a manga with plants on the cover.
  2. Read a manga about nature. - Anything set in nature or about the things in nature: mountains, ocean, the arctic, etc.
  3. Read a manga that takes place in the countryside.


11 - El Melon

  1. Read a Iyashikei manga.
  2. Read a Slice of Life manga.
  3. Read a manga with only one genre.


12 - El Valiente

  1. Read an Adventure manga.
  2. Read a manga recommended to you by another participant in the discussion thread. - Link to their post or add a screenshot, making sure to include their name.
  3. Read a battle royale / survival manga.


13 - El Gorrito

  1. Read a Childcare manga.
  2. Read a manga that started publishing in the 2020s. - (2020-2025)
  3. Read a manga with both a child and an adult main character. - The child has to be 12 years old or younger, and the adult has to be 18 years old or older.


14 - La Muerte

  1. Read a manga about a family.
  2. Read a manga with a shinigami character.
  3. Read a manga with a weapon or blood on the cover.


15 - La Pera

  1. Read a one-shot.
  2. Read a manga with a score of 8 or above.
  3. Read a manga that is 1-3 volumes or 25 chapters or less in length.


16 - La Bandera

  1. Read a Manhwa.
  2. Read a manga that takes place outside of Japan, but in the real world.
  3. Read a Samurai manga.


17 - El Bandolon

  1. Read a manga by your favorite author/artist.
  2. Read a manga that started publishing before or in the 70s. - (19XX-1979)
  3. Read a manga with a symbol in the title. - Excluding punctuation (i.e., ~!@#$%&, etc.). Only symbols not on the keyboard count (i.e., ♪★☆♥△, etc.).


18 - El Violoncello

  1. Read a Supernatural manga.
  2. Read a manga tagged with Dystopia / Apocalypse / Post-Apocalyptic. - One of the mentioned tags on Mangaupdates is required.
  3. Read a manga that includes a character with a disability. - It has to be a non-temporary disability. Things like broken limbs don't count unless it's permanent.


19 - La Garza

  1. Read an isekai manga.
  2. Read a manga including time travel. - Suggestions: Time Travel | Time Traveller/s
  3. Read any manga recommended to your Favorite Manga listed in profile. - Make sure to list your favorite manga.


20 - El Pajaro

  1. Read a web/4-koma manga.
  2. Read a colored manga. - - Either use a tagged manga or attach a screenshot showing the color.
    (It can't be a central single color page because of a special event or commemoration. It has to be the default state of the manga. Extra content doesn't count.) Suggestions: Full Color | Partially Colored | Accent Colors
  3. Read a Memoir or Biography/Autobiography manga.


21 - La Mano

  1. Read a manga with a score of 6 or lower.
  2. Read a manga tagged under Atypical Art Style, Elaborate Art Style, Sketchy Art Style, or Realistic Art Style.
  3. Read a manga that got cancelled/axed.


22 - La Bota

  1. Read a manga by an author/artist duo.
  2. Read a Mahou Shoujo
  3. Read a manga with the same first and last letter. - Title must be at least 2 letters long.


23 - La Luna

  1. Read a doujinshi based on a series you've read.
  2. Read a Mystery manga.
  3. Read a manga with the same number of male and female main characters.


24 - El Cotorro

  1. Read a manga from a mangaka that shares your birthday month.
  2. Read a manga that has been adapted to live action. - You can also check out the "adapted to Chinese drama/Kdrama/live action/Taiwanese drama" tags on mangaupdates for ideas.
  3. Read a manga related to something you previously read. - Make a note of the previous manga.


27 - El Corazon

  1. Read a Romance manga.
  2. Read a manga ranked in the top 1000.
  3. Read a manga from the ones listed under manga relations in the Hidden Gems of Manga club.


28 - La Sandia

  1. Read a manga by an author/artist who has published 10 manga or more.
  2. Read a Gourmet manga.
  3. Read an award-winning manga. - Make a note of which award the manga won.


29 - El Tambor

  1. Read a manga about Music, or Art.
  2. Read a manga with the same number of volumes as letters in your name.
  3. Read a manga with a main character that is a professional in their field. - The MC needs to earn a living with it.


30 - El Camaron

  1. Read a manga another MRC participant rated 9 or higher. - Link to their post and profile.
  2. Read a manga with a one word title.
  3. Read a manga from a magazine with less than 50 titles in the database.


31 - Las Jaras

  1. Read a manga that started publishing in the 90s. - (1990-1999)
  2. Read a Video Game
  3. Read a Medical or Illness manga.


32 - El Musico

  1. Read a School manga.
  2. Read a manga with no characters on the cover.
  3. Read a manga with a listed cast of 8 or more people.


33 - La Arana

  1. Read a Vampire manga.
  2. Read a Suspense manga.
  3. Read a manga with both a human and a non-human main character. - Any character that isn't human counts, even if they have a human appearance.


34 - El Soldado

  1. Read a Military manga.
  2. Read a manga with a Japanese honorific in the title (e.g. chan, san, kun, sama, etc.)
  3. Read a manga that started publishing in the 2000s. - (2000-2009)


35 - La Estrella

  1. Read a Space manga.
  2. Read a manga ranked ABOVE 2,000- Example:1998,1999, ... , etc. It has to be ranked. (No N/A!).
