Contrail—each producing a standout work based on one-shots originally published on the digital manga platform.

Shounen Jump+'s One-shot Culture
Launched in 2014, Shounen Jump+ has grown into one of Japan's most successful digital manga platforms, generating major hits like Kaijuu 8-gou (Kaiju No. 8). In addition to its serialized manga, the service has also cultivated a robust ecosystem of one-shot works—publishing over 2,000 since its inception.

These short-form stories have served both as a proving ground for new artists and a space for established creators to explore unconventional ideas. Notably, film, originated as a one-shot on the platform. This legacy forms the backbone of the new anime initiative.

JOEN Leads the Production Framework
The project is being produced by CloverWorks and WIT Studio to give animation studios more ownership and creative control over their projects. Since its founding, JOEN has focused on facilitating collaborations that prioritize quality and innovation, often partnering across studios and with independent creators.

For the Shounen Jump+ One-shot Anime Project, JOEN is not only coordinating studio involvement but also overseeing the development process from concept to release. The initiative allows each participating studio to adapt a one-shot in a way that best fits the story, whether through short films or alternative formats, sidestepping traditional serialization constraints.

Looking Ahead
The selected one-shots and further production details will be announced via the Shounen Jump+ app and anniversary website. The anime are expected to debut in theaters first, followed by a global rollout via digital platforms—marking a new experiment in bridging manga, anime, and international audiences.

I'm always up for more one-shot adaptions, they're so many good ones that get ignored.

@Yubisoft You and I clearly have very different ideas of what the word "renowned" means. To me, being renowned is not just about an entity's current status but about their entire history. Whatever Production I.G is now, it is still one of the most well known studios in the industry.

I didn't say something about Wit. People are only ing Haikyu and Kaiju No. 8 when it comes to this studio which were the only successful recent releases and of course they have done a wonderful job. They are wonderful studio when it comes to producing shows but most of their recent releases were meh and not very well received.

even if it is a much better studio than Contrail,

which means I recognize that Contrail currently hasn't done something noticeable or praiseworthy but that doesn't mean automatically means that Production I.G deserves the renown title just because they are an older studio and have animated popular series. But since you included Wit in the conversation , currently from these 3 studio only Wit deserves to be called renowned . They have extremely more consistent with quality animation and series lately

@Yubisoft It's 2025, at least try to write coherent English. Your reply is barely readable. "Renowned" means widely known or famous. Contrail has three titles in the database. How exactly is that renowned? His point is valid, but as usual, you're more interested in starting arguments than contributing anything useful. Just like you pad your manga stats, you're trying to farm replies here too.

@Yubisoft Except Wit and Production I.G are literally the gold standard of the industry. Their reputation is earned. What has Contrail done to be known, much less renowned?

Intriguing news. I wonder what oneshot manga we will see animated. Personally, I have fingers crossed for "Sayonara Eri" anime. :)

@RippleLover You are literally the type of person(and many other in this website community and this comment section) that a studio animated something popular = automatically renown studio so even if it is a much better studio than Contrail, your standards are still questionable.

Putting Contrail as a "renown" studio next to Wit and the best studio in the industry Production IG is really funny.

Oh, so M+ is a global version of SJ+. Don't care that much about one shots, self contained stories not stretched or cut down to 12 TV episode format is the interesting part. I really miss OVAs. Story dictated the length, not much censoring or cheap animation because of scheduling issues, more creative freedom for the studio or writers. I wonder if they will manage to make something close to it with this project.

@zoomerReviewer Contrail is MAPPAs subsidiary. The other two studios are reknown.

May 18, 2:33 AM by Nachtwandler_21

hopefully no fujimoto manga, he's a hack.

May 18, 12:38 AM by Catalano

really stretching the definition of "renown studio" with this one !

May 18, 12:37 AM by zoomerReviewer

@rohan121 None of these titles were one-shots, obviously. Plus, Triangle wasn't Yabuki's strongest project, to say the least.

May 17, 11:26 PM by RobertBobert

A new Ayakashi triangle season would be nice, or a Hitman Reborn remake.
