Yeah, don't worry about it, I think I forgot between writing that and making your gift that you were okay with getting PTW-gifts, and the odds of you adding ALL of my shows would have been really low xD I'm honestly holding my breath more when my recipient starts watching a show that's not a seasonal or a sequel, hehe.
And L indeed! That's who Akuma-kun initially reminded me as well. The standoffish, honestly pretty rude behaviour, the savant air, but also the feeling of him being a bit of a lost child. Someone fundamentally disconnected from those around him. Which is why I honestly really enjoyed his dynamic with Mephisto. Duos like this where one is kind and caring and the other is just rude with a very rare acknowledgement of friendship. But this duo as well as the apostles as mostly commentary/gag characters make the whole work. And the atmosphere! Being left uncertain at spots. Again, I'm super happy you enjoyed the show as much as I did!
As for Shiki, it seems like you went on the exact same journey I did. In episode 7 or so there would have barely been a chance for me to feel empathy with the monsters. They're all in a sense very humanized and well... it's hard to argue with a human who just wants to live their life, who didn't choose their condition. And some of them died in pretty gruesome ways. I never even LIKED Megumi yet I felt every agonizing moment of her end. It's a great show and it even made me consider the ways in which I approach and deal with antagonistic people. And when a show can make me challenge myself like that ON TOP OF all the wonderful atmosphere, kooky characters and even the occasional gag that lands.
Ah, that is unfortunate then. Ah but don't bother with the English dub in that case, if you don't have a native dub the Japanese dub is probably actually the next best thing. I was aware that things were changed from the Japanese dub, but that only mostly applies to the scrípt for the 4kids dub. The German dub for example changed nothing from the original except a handful of digimon names. There's no need to rush finishing it by the way, I'd rather you enjoy every episode as opposed to finishing the show asap. You already finished over 30 other episodes I gave you as gifts, that's more than I can even say for my own gifts. And I'm happy you're having fun with it even when it's this long.
Oh also don't be discouraged about your own gift! Part of the reason why I try and make my gifts big and pretty is because I've gotten gifts like that before. As long as you gave an honest effort finding a show your recipient would like and some nice works to sell your pick, that's the heart of the event. Not all people appreciate these longer gifts. So thank you again for your long response! I'm happy I got to your Santa this year.
As far as Trinity Seven is concern, I think I felt the same about it as you particular with the issues you found with it. That being said, you had so much... "cultured" stuff on your list that I felt obligated to give you something along those lines and this was really the only option I had in my list haha.
As a fellow person who also really love emotional shows, I wanted to do my best to find some hidden ones that you might enjoy and I'm glad you resonated so much with Ef. I haven't gotten around to this VN yet either (My backlog of VN is so long I don't want to think about it) so I can't speak much of it but I would say that since you enjoyed the anime then you should give the sequel a chance to see some of the endings and connections the series make. Unless you want to save that for the VN which I would totally understand.
Little Buster is a bit confusing all over the place (like all of Jun Maeda's work are) and you don't get this infamous tonal shift that you got in angel beats and charlotte until season two so I'm interested to see how season two impact your impression of the series. I do agree that the first season was slow and probably should have warned you about that.
I'm glad you had such a enjoyable time with my shows!
