About me

The first anime I've watched was Yattaman in 1993 or 1994. All of them were just cartoons for me back then.

Around 1996 or 1997 a friend of mine showed me Ghost in the Shell. Although I still did not know that it was an anime, I was amazed that an animated movie can be so good (in animation, plot and soundtrack). After watching it I did some research and learnt that it was from Japan. Somehow I've missed the information that it was an anime.

Another few years have ed and around 2000 I saw my younger brother (15 years old at that time) watching some cartoon. As I was waiting for a friend of mine (and had nothing better to do), I've watched it with him. There was an old man wearing a turtle shell, a young boy with a monkey tail and a bald one. I don't which episode it was, but I've laughed till tears. After that I've started watching this cartoon with him. Some of you may already know what was it, but for those who don't, it was Dragon Ball GT. That's how I've learnt what anime is and how my adventure with anime began.

Few years after the last episode of Dragon Ball GT my brother found My Neighbor Totoro.

In the years that followed I've discovered many great anime, including Sousou no Frieren.

If you think there is a great anime I should watch, and it's not on my plan to watch list, don't hesitate to recommend it to me :-)

Cheers!

Hello, I find it really impressive that you never dropped any show. What do you do when you start a show and you really aren't enjoying it, but there is still like 20+ episodes left?

Yep. There is no urgency/motivation necessary if they know they will get to it eventually. And the author made Frieren realize how much of that "short window" of her life was valuable and full of memories vs her journey by herself.

It's executed so well. I like the switch between the two because it's revealing more information piece by piece but two fold and see how they can be interwoven and connected between current figures and past figures. How the past memory isn't triggered until something happens in the present, the connection then is made once the realization of the past moment is similar to what happens in the current and then Frieren's perspective differences between the two timelines. She would then treasure her past memory even more or have better understanding thus becomes a stronger memory for her to carry on during her life. She then uses the new knowledge acquired and help her make better choices towards the similar current event.

Gives a really good sense of the journey timeframe, quicker realization of how drastic the difference is between that point and another point in of character growth, worldbuilding (vastness of the area), degree of stakes between humans (Fern/Stark) and Frieren with each ing timeframe.

That anime did a lot of things right with a great balance as well as have perspective to enjoy the small things in life. It's shocking that it swept all the Western anime sites at #1. And I thought it would get downrated badly like all the other #1 achievers.

Certainly a strong top candidate show. I liked the dialogue, character dynamics, no complete overreacting, no melodrama, the time skips flowed into the story and gave it a nice change (really made it felt like a long journey)
