Mushishi is a very unique, peaceful anime. If you are expecting a developing story line, romance, or action, then this might not be the anime for you. If you like binging anime it also would not be a good fit because it could feel repetitive. I was hesitant the first two episodes because I realized that the episodes did not have a visible developing storyline; however, when I realized what the anime was doing, I thought it was wonderful. Mushishi is meant to be treasured like a work of art or a fine wine. The art is beautiful and the music is wonderful. There is a nostalgic like comfort to this anime that gave me a lot of peace when watching it. So I would savor it and only watching it on rare occasions when I would come home from a good day of work and wanted peace and comfort. It's like reading a book in your favorite spot on a rainy day. Now that does not mean there are not some heavier themes in the anime, but I think there can be a lot of beauty and peace in happy and sad endings. If you are looking for a unique experience with an anime, I think Mushishi is a gem! There is wisdom, there is calm, there is beauty, there is a sense of nostalgia... genuinely a great watch!
