If, like me, you were looking for a detective show to get high on, and you somehow stumbled upon this hidden gem, then allow me to share my experience.
first himitsu's premise is very solid compared to most anime, it is about a governmental group that takes deceased, high value criminal cases, extracts the murdered and murderers brains and plays back their minds eye.
so obviously this has some potential to be very interesting.
The story is episodic mainly, with small arcs, and an underlying main story that pervades throughout the series. It didnt really go where i thought it might, nor did it live up to what i initially expected.
The art is certainly mediocre. The characters are drawn more realistically, which is fine, but there are a ton of still frames in it.
sound is forgetable, Characters are either under developed or way over developed.
The pros, ie why you should watch:
Its series is very introspective in a sense, intelligent even. The mysterious elements are more than enough to keep you going. Its by and large entertaining and engaging.
The cons: (minor spoilers):
basically, its so realistic that a case comes in for them to solve, and...you guessed it, they look at the brain, find the killer and go grab him. putting it this way sort of belies alot of dramatic elements and character interactions, etc. but that's really what goes on. Despite the fact they are very thorough, the stories are pretty mediocre. Where they had the potential to put in some high tension mysteries,
they choose to try to weave together most of the cases for the big finale. So they are piecemeal and too short.
So b/c they went that route, alot of the smaller "mysteries" aren't really mysterious and are in fact easily solved. too easily solved. but there is alot of background noise that keeps it just interesting enough to continue.l
Then you get to episode 24. This has to be the stupidest shit i've ever seen. First, the characters continuely run off on their own even though their dept. is constantly being targeted. The guy meets up with the "bad guy" and just turns his back while in enemy territory, and yep, gets hit from behind. its so bad and ridiculous, i thougth about ending it right there. what im relaying to you is not even a bread crumb of the absurdity that ensues throughout that episode. and thats largely why i gave this a 5.
and ofc the "grand finale" is pretty obvious and not very grand. so you're lead down this path, almost being promised greatness, and then shat on with a "derp". if i could rate this a derp i would
