I'm only 2 episodes in but it's this warm familiar feeling that immediately made me check if they were by the same studio (which they are). Chihayafuru made me feel good. Barakamon makes me feel good. It's as simple as that.
Both are slice of life genre and set in the peaceful countryside. The main characters are both trying their hardest to achieve their goals and will do anything they can to make it.
Both shows a Japanese Culture. Chihayafuru is all about karuta and haiku poems while Barakamon is about Japanese Calligraphy. Both shows competition but Chihayafuru is more like sports while Barakamon is basically a story of a young calligrapher in a remote island. Chihayafuru is now on Season 3 so better watch it
