Agreed on Code Geass. The problem with Code Geass is it rips off Light Yagami from Death Note but the thing is Light actually kills innocent people and is an egotistical fuck with a God complex. Yes he makes the world a better place but it's understandable how he'd be a Faustian anti-hero, meanwhile Lelouch is mecha MC fighting against a genocidal empire. Basically a generic good vs evil story only they try to make the good guy into an anti hero while letting the mass murdering villains get away with everything, how dumb is that? Not to mention attempts to make Lelouch grey/detestable are contrived through dumb shit like 'kill all the Japanese' or 'Suzaku ...Live!' (and Suzaku still managed to look more evil in both situations).

And even with all his flaws, his foil Suzaku is still easily one of the most evil characters in anime. Whereas Lelouch is a poorly transposed Light knockoff, Suzaku is like Griffith but even worse; at least Griffith committed most of his evil as an emotionless demon and knows his nature, meanwhile Suzaku actively perpetuates the suffering of HIS OWN PEOPLE while claiming to be a fighting a just cause! Imagine how fucked up and wicked that sounds yet the writers legitimately try to portray him as a 'misguided hero'.
