Domestic Girlfriend. AKA how to develop two characters relationship for 120+ chapters, to then have all of that development be thrown out the window.

Legit...what the hell happened to this manga? What in the world did we do to deserve all of this?
Domestic Girlfriend was something that was very special to me, I genuinely really loved this manga and the story and the characters within. It had an interesting although taboo premise, but that is what made it intriguing. The feelings that I got from this manga is something I've never experienced in any other ... fiction I've read and I know that sounds weird.

For me to rate Domestic Girlfriend I feel like I have to give it 3 different scores:

Chapters 1-225:
These chapters are some of the best you're gonna get, I agree that the first couple of arcs maybe aren't the best but once it gets past where the anime left off it really starts to get good imo. The time when Rui and Natsou are together before they break up is the highlight of this manga, they have the cutest moments together and they are the true couple of this manga

225-265
These chapters aren't necessarily bad, but I would be lying if I said that the quality didn't go a bit downhill. A lot of the arcs after 225 feel really pointless and just seems like the author was making things up as she went along. There are some great moments in these chapters I won't deny that but a lot of things just seems so unnecessary and pointless

This final arc here is where my big problems start to arise, and why I personally believe that this is the most disappointing ending to a series I've ever seen.
At this point I kinda wanted the manga to just be done and over. Just give me Natsuo and Rui's wedding and then in the final chapter, you can show them together with their newborn child, THE END. Now wouldn't that be a pretty decent ending to the story? No, I guess the author thought that putting Hina in a coma and having Rui and Natsou cancel their wedding for Natsou to repay Hina for "living her life for him" and giving up on them being together was the best possible outcome... After this we skip a couple of years and now have a daughter, the daughter really loves Hina for some reason... After that Rui comes to give Natsuo a marriage registration. I actually had some hoped that it was for them and they just now wanted to do it, but no, of course, it is for him and Hina and they are both completely fine with it...

None of this makes any sense. None of it does. All of this only happened because the author had apparently planned it all along but decided to do it in the last 6 chapters of her series...
Doing so she has singlehandedly ruined both Natsuos and Ruis character development as well as making their relationship totally pointless now because apparently Natsou has always loved Hina... Are you actually serious? So all the time they were together wasn't genuine? wow...


Story: 6/10

I would have given it a 8,5 but that last arc really took it down. The story is really captivating up to 225 and then it kinda goes downhill and then later becomes a train wreck.

Art 8/10

I don't really have any complaints with the art, I always thought it looked great and it only got better as time went on.

Characters: 6,5/10
Characters only really start to go downhill after chapter 270 and I probably would have given it an 8,5 or a 9, but again these final chapters have done so much damage that it would be impossible for me to give it a higher score.



Overall: 6
My main score will remain a 6 which is probably extremely generous considering everything I've said so far. Reason for this is because despite everything I've said I still have some love for this manga, even though none of it matters anymore.

I can't recommend this at all unless you want to be disappointed and feel like you've wasted your time. Just don't do it. What the author did was disrespectful to her fans and I certainly won't read any of her future works.

Sigh... Gintama. I back when this used to be my nr. 1 favorite anime as well as being the funniest. I starting it right before summer vacation and just binging the hell out of it, laughing at the hilarious moments and being kinda touched by some of the serious stuff too. It became something very special for me and it was just constantly getting better and better the further I got into it. When I finished the first 201 episodes of Gintama I was so excited to start season 2 or Gintama' right afterwards. I was about a quarter way into it and ... that's where I started to question myself if I was even enjoying what I was watching. I think I said "Oh maybe it's because I've watched too many episodes", so I took a bit of a break from it. Then I came back and finished it and didn't really know what to think. I mean, I did enjoy it but at the same time I didn't. None of the "serious" arcs didn't really hit me as much as they did in season 1 nor did the comedy. After that I just continued to watch and at some points were kinda forcing myself through some of it, I kept making up excuses in my head as to why I wasn't enjoying it and now I've realized that I was just lying to myself.

Now were here with Gintama°, this was the highest rated season of them all so I had a lot of hopes that it would rekindle my love for the show. I only watched 17 eps of it but honestly I think I had just already given up at that point tbh.

First of all I have to say that I personally think it's absolutely ridiculous that this season is the second highest rated anime on MAL. How this is even possible is honestly beyond me, it's not even the best season of Gintama like everyone seems to think so. There are so many better shows out there that I would rank higher than this but MAL's rating system pretty shit to begin with though so maybe that's not too surprising.
I think the biggest problem I started having with the show after season 1 was that the arcs didn't have enough built up. Every single arc after episode 201 feels so short and underdeveloped in my opinion. Arcs felt like they had so much more built up to them before, they really benefited from that, or maybe it's just me who got tired of the Gintama formula, I don't know tbh.
Gintama in of it self is also way too long for it's own good, it feels like the Sorachi didn't know how the hell to even end the series. If from 201 it had gone up to 270 eps, then maybe I wouldn't be making this review at all.

All in all Gintama is still special to me, it sure ain't my nr. 1 and may not even be in my top 10 for that matter but I will still it as being something dear to me. It's just sad that I couldn't be there till the end.
