Kino's Journey: Watch the original before the new one. The new one has like 2 worthwhile episodes for fans of the work, but is considerably inferior overall.
Haruhi: Original airing order is the way to go.
Baccano/Durarara: Watch Baccano first, then Durararara
Lucky Star/Maesetsu: Lucky Star gets better if you've watched Haruhi, and Maesetsu gets better if you've watched Lucky Star.
Seitokai no Ichizon: Gets better when watched after Haruhi, Lucky Star and Clannad.
Danganronpa: Play Danganronpa 1, Danganronpa 2, skip 2.5 (but read the characters' wiki), watch Danganronpa 3 alternating between episodes of Zetsubou and Mirai-hen (starting with Mirai), watch Kibou-hen, the 2.5 ova, and then play Danganronpa V3. (outdated)
The Soultaker/Komugi-chan: Watch Komugi after The Soultaker, and never watch the Komugi-chan R reboot.

dude, mano, maninho, meu bom, meu caro, meu senhor, meu belo, meu excelentíssimo, kiwiwiっち e afins, oi, tudo bem? espero que esteja bem, você está bem? Bom dia. ola, Bom dia. como vai? po, dessa vez eu nem demorei tanto pra começar a escrever uma resposta, certeza, certeza. vamo nessa... pera, huh? fevereiro? tu me mandou mensagem em fevereiro? huh? ue, abril... MAIO?
Now I'm wondering whatever else you've already read in the meantime, since you last wrote your message. That's the advantage (furigana=problem) of taking long with responding. So much piles up, your message could be even longer! Longer than Umineko! In a couple years time.
Ah, verdade! A tragédia! A tragédia, qual foi mesmo a tragédia? Tragédia? Foi tão trágico assim mesmo? Foi. Foi sim. Foi uma tragédia. Dessas verdadeiras. Uma verdadeira tragédia. Ó o q aconteceu: vou falar em. Um cara. Um cara me mandou uma mensagem. Um cara me mandou uma mensagem no myanimelist. MAL, myanimelist.

ちょいちょいちょい待ってええええ. longer than umineko? i haven't even started the umineko streams(though, non-ironically i'm supposed to start soon, i was just finishing another stream series before) and i already know that's kilometers long! i can't write that much! well, but, reading huh? books i've been reading? books... books... hmmmm, oh, yeah, there are a few. moyses physics volume I, apostol calculus volume I, guidorizz cauculus volume I, Alonso e Finn physics volume I, atkins chemistry volume I... wait, you're not really talking about that, are you? uuuuh... i finished zaregoto 1, ig? i did, right? yeah, i did i did, that did happen, it seems like a huge while ago, tho, but yeah, it happened, it did happen, and ig i started zaregoto 10? did that go anywhere? did it? no, i can't really say it did. i started, then i read a bit more, was enjoying it, jun is incredibly fun to read, but then... what was it...? oh yeah... that week... yeah, that explains it, definitely. all in it's time, though. weird narration apart though, i am still on a quest to read more books, i just can't seem to find the right mood. it's not like i don't have time at all, i just tend to use it with other stuff. hanging out with people from IME, calling my family, calling friends from my hometown and all, yk how it is.
IME. F*da. Vai lá cara, seja a pessoa mais legal do estado. Rio de Janeiro. Boa sorte.
Dragon Ball! Dragon Ball is only ever getting better. The Freeza fight was way too long, but there's something about it that just feels so important, so epic, like a milestone in storytelling. Initially I just thought there was no way Cell's arc would come near it, if it was just gonna be more of the same with a worse villain, but then it happens... Cell's arc isn't Goku's story, it's Gohan's. And I love Gohan! Way better than Goku! The show is fixed! It's an epilogue to the Frieza saga and a prologue to Gohan's story (which I'm currently watching it and loving it, cause Gohan's great, Videl's the goat, Android 18 x Kuririn makes me really happy), the Android saga is really really good, and at first I couldn't understand Cell as a villain, cause it's not like he wanted to destroy the universe or anything, he didn't kill anyone, you can revive those people later, he was a little goofy instead of pure evil and arrogance Frieza, but I came to with it as the arc ed -- Cell is Dragon Ball itself, the desire to get stronger, to fight stronger people, and have fun while doing so. Recap: I loved the start, Frieza's arc drags on but it's worth it, I love the androids, I don't understand Cell ---> Cell Games happen ---> I love it all over again. And now there's another Tenkaichi Budoukai, and it's gonna be so good.
you truly understood the dragon ball hype. yep, everything until the end of the cell saga is so good it's impressive. i particularly find it impressive how much i still like it, but... well, you probably finished the bull saga by now, so you can tell me what you thought of that, lol. definitely one of the sagas ever written. i particularly like it enough, although i think it kinda goes against some of the ideas previously established in the series, specially the cell saga ideas involving the of the torch to the next generation.
I'm watching the movies, reading Super and then watching Daima. I'm far from the biggest shounen fan, but I've watched a lot of them, and this is by far one of the best (the only thing better than DBZ that comes to mind right now is the first Bleach arc, which I'm very biased towards).
perdão, não, soul society não é melhor que dragon ball, EU SOU ENVIEZADO, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH. for real, though, coincidentally i've been watching bleach on the side for a while. eating dinner sometimes i watch an ep or two, and it's hella fun, soul society definitely has soul, no pun intended, and i enjoy it for what it is, ig i just can't wrap my head around how over powered ichigo gets in so little time, bunkai in 3 days was so bullshit nidsnfidnffoisdnf, but that's what i loved about it as well, it was dumb fun for me, and heck, quite emotional at times, which is everything i could ask for in a show these days. also, on the super topic, whenever you get to the tournament of power, please, watch the anime. it's slow, but it's so worth it to view it there.
Bom dia.
ahhh okay my bad i read through your comment too quickly and just jumped to enter the dragon. anyway seems interesting, looking forward to the ep.
the list seems very cool. i watched suspiria the other night and enjoyed picking out different stylistic influences from it (like the lighting, block coloring, and some of the ways of using sound, and particular iconography).
i actually wasnt aware of shaft aoi, buty honestly that makes a lot of sense, as the series you mentioned really dont feel like they belong to shaft's oeuvre (even though something like assault lily does). i did think that some of the compositing/post-processing on the gotoubun ova had shaft's digital vibe on it but couldve just been me reading into it. either way im still curious about ninkoro but definitely much more excited for virgin punk, which looks shafty enough that when i first watched the pv i was like "oh shit is this shaft!".
and yeah i have seen that crystar op, it is nice but i guess im still pining for some full length oishi material. i know he likes his long gestation periods though so i will wait.
also awesome that youre moving to tokyo! is it long term? sounds really exciting. im hoping to get back there at least once this year (hopefully for winter comiket). i hadnt studied any japanese when i went in 2023 and it was only for a week so im hoping to make much more of it next time around.
ooh thanks for the very detailed response. not feeling completely up to replying to it all atm but you did push me over the edge to reing the vlog with the part that caused it to be blocked worldwide auto-trimmed out.
it is a couple years old and i am p sleep deprived and/or drunk at points so i wouldnt say i stand by everything but maybe it is a fun watch regardless.
yeah when I first watched that blame ona a couple years ago there werent any photos of him that i could fine and i was entertaining the idea that he was another shinbou pseudonym.
interesting about yukio takatsu, i hadnt looked into him before as i guess i dont usually look into op/ed staff that much, and yeah i have seen some of the videogame op's - definitely enjoy them. wait so he's directing a yakuza anime adaption? at which studio?
didnt know suspiria was shinbou's fav movie but ill expedite watching that. yes plz send the list over - in fact if you link the magazine article i would love that (i have like a low-intermediate level of japanese). i know he really likes kon ichikawa so i put a bunch of his films on my criterion channel watch list but havent made it around to them yet.
with the other shows by the aforementioned directors, i include them at my discretion. for me the later sin oonuma shows where he has essentially become the shinbou of silver link only really have a tertiary connection (i do enjoy BoFuri though, just wouldnt call post-shaft). i think i have include all the post-shaft yase directed shows (unless you were thinking of akebi-chan since he directed an episode). for hatakeyama i still need to check out gancrest senki but for some reason im not expecting it to be v shafty.
fun little story to add: i went to tokyo for the first time in 2023 and actually went to the shaft main offices (not inside though) and it was a v interesting experience. there are some notable objects in the vicinity and a park across the street that feature a number of objects that have been prominently included in various series that they have done. definitely worth the journey to the outskirts of tokyo. i made an experimental vlog of the trip (well my whole tokyo trip but especially the shaft part) but it got taken down from youtube.
hope 2025 is a good year for the studio w the madoka film finally coming out, virgin punk, and ninkoro. also maybe i interpreted it incorrectly but i thought that the final ep of bishounen tanteidan implied that there would be a sequel season but we are nearly 4 years out w no sign so who knows. hoping for 1 more new shinbou-helmed series before he inevitably retires in the near future.
hey v delayed response but thanks for the suggestions. seems like you know your shaft well. regarding the series you have recc'd ill have to check them all out and see how they fit. im currently reading medaka box but i dropped the anime p quickly some years ago. i have watched hyakko but dont it seeming that shafty, might give ep.1 another whirl to check. i did add nourin though. i wont consider the fate/go pv since it is a short.
i do have a question for you as a fellow shaft aficionado. have you seen anything involving shintarou inokawa that felt shafty to you? he directed the 2003 Blame! ONA and the direction looks v shinbou and + he worked on a number of pre-Shaft shinbou shows as well as dotto koni-chan.

戯言だけどね(had to say it).
comer lamen e ler light novel? ler light novel e comer lamen? sao muitas opcoes、realmente.
Nisio's prose flows really well. For as many puns and hard kanji as there are, they feel way easier to read than pretty much anything I've read so far. I don't know if I said this, but my first LN was a boogiepop volume, then I read Ikusei Keikaku, and then I went straight to Nisio's Sekai series and had an incredible time with it. There's really no better way to motivate yourself to reading something hard than just having that something be incredible / incredibly well-written. It literally just increases your reading speed.
by parts. yeah, I completely agree that his prose is very fluid to read. i myself have such an easy time getting through it, even if some words fly over my head. it just has this good flow to it that it’s hard to explain, but i feel like you get it. also, yes, you did mention boogiepop was your first LN volume, or at least i you doing so, would have to check, and God knows i won’t check our entire backlog of messages that are longer than most Syosetsu chapters. and, true, really the best way to motivate yourself to do something is if that something is very good, perhaps that’s why i haven’t been reading as much recently. as much as i love zaregoto, it is a reread, so i don’t feel like i’m losing much by not reading it all the time, same goes for the other titles, but in their case they are just bad, lol. maybe i should just force a Maijou work in the list and see how it goes, i’d not understand everything, but it’s how it goes. i’ll see, depends a lot on the next few weeks.
(Having read the rest of the message I now realize you're reading Zare already.
kkk, o novo celeste falava 2024 no trailer? Bomm... ainda dá tempo. Igual Silksong, que o shadow drop é amanhã, né?
Oh, boy, do i have news for you… na real, eu não tenho notícias pra você, o que em si é uma notícia. EU QUERIA SILKSONG NO GAME AWARDS, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.
And hey, did you like VA-11 Hall-A? I own that game, but I only played very little of it and I honestly barely anything about it. Very pretty artwork, though. Same with Miwashiba's games, I've been waiting for The Faceless Double for years already, mostly a fan of 1BitHeart and of him as an illustrator -- but I'm not a gaming man, tis but a hobby, with anime and lns as my main occupation.
it was a very fun experience, i’d say. i didn’t mind the horniness of the game, i myself thought it added to the world, and the general vibe and story is very fun, i’d recommend it if you enjoy the style.
He said shiteiru! There's hope. Surely Kubishime is already in production. Of couse after Shaft's hiatus they had to do some Monogatari to please the fans, and now I'm sure they'll continue Monogatari till the end, even if it means skipping some arcs, but they absolutely have in mind the possibility of more Zare anime, with the full BD release, and with how v2 is way more popular in Japan than v1.
i hope they do it. Zaregoto is very deserving of a full adaptation, although it’s one of those works that loses a lot from now being in novel format. still, very doable to do a good adaptation. I particularly like V1 the best of the first 3, but when they reach the V4-5 arc… fiction will be truly broken. and yeah, they doing all of monogatari for sure, although i hope they skip nothing. worse case scenario, do a short OVA with the not so important stories, one episode for each or something. still, like you, i trust them, they have proven again and again that they are capable.
About the Monogatari order, I feel like it's a little too cohesive, but it's nothing they haven't done before. Like how the cliffhanger at the end of Koyomi is only answered in the third Owari novel, but in the anime they adapted Koyomi in the middle of Owari so it was answered immediately. To me it feels weird having so little less buildup in that sense, but, again, I trust 'em.
I don’t mind it in the owari case, since it fitted pretty well for me. and, from a meta perspective, there was tons of in world time build up! an year or so until Owari 2 released, yeah? don’t know the specifics, but it was around that, so it was a lasting cliffhanger for those watching. still, i see where you’re coming from. i feel like the anime order, ignoring kizu in the final season, is the better one in general, specially in the case of hana after koi, since watching hana before koi gives away the general conclusion of that arc.
Faltam 6 livros!
Vendo a primeira temporada eu dei nota 6, vendo a segunda temporada eu troquei pra 8, agora 9, considerando 10.
Recomendo o filme.
Outra dessas coisas particularmente populares aqui no Brasil tbm.
Now with Tsukihi Undo you can rewatch every arc and everytime Tsukihi shows up you'll start thinking if she is the cataclysm to those events, paying attention to who she talks to, if anything bad will happen to them. We're now under Nisio's spell and everything will feel like foreshadowing. It's so cool.
I think it's Araki's influence on Nisio, but there's always explanations as to way kaii-related things keep happening to the characters and the city. Recognizing the existence of kaii s once makes it so you're more likely to come into with them again, there was something with Shinobu falling there, a vaccum forming in kitashirahebijinja, the lake where the park used to be, and now all of that could've been because of the hinodori living there. It's so cool how it keeps building upon itself, expanding its worldview, the rules to its universe (think the black hole) -- of course rewatching it makes it better, you think differently about that world depending on how far you've gotten into it. And I can't wait for that to keep happening. Shinobu just got a backstory which recontextualizes some things. It's great.
oh, araki influenced Nisio… ok, that makes sense, why did i never think about it? but, indeed, it’s all very cohesive. honestly, we didn’t even need those explanations, since people usually brush those things off as just being how the story works, but i find it endearing that Nisio goes out of his way to try and contextualize stuff better.
you shouldn’t have said that…
一番好きなのは多分Harissonの「While my guitar gently weeps」だった。
And alright, about Okitegami, I got a lot of good news for you. The first one is, though there will be a lot of narrators, Kakushidate will be back eventually, though I don't know how often. Both manga and live-action adaptations only have him as the protagonist, rewriting later arcs to fit him, so those might interest you as well (I hate the manga, but the live-action is pretty creative in its directing, has a lot of original content, it's probably pretty good) -- and it means the creators agree with you on v2 (though I personally loved the mysteries and didn't mind the change at all). Now, v3, which is the only other one I've read, still doesn't have Kakushidate back. However, the mystery writing is absolutely phenomenal. Peak Nisio. So feel free to take a break, and all volumes are standalone, so you can even just skip to the Kakushidate volumes if you ever feel like it, but do give v3 a try (though only the first chapters has a good translation). Even if only eventually. It's a very good novel.
oh, ok, that’s great. in the case of volume 2, i’ll try and finish it until the end of the year, but it depends on my own will to read the volume. and, to be even more honest, i’d be more willing to read the rest in japanese. since i’m answering this out of order, idk if i mentioned this in the message yet, but i have been reading some books in japanese(although, since i’m still learning kanji, i used furiganalyse to make the reading process easier). and i feel like eventually this will pay off on me reading books in japanese and i’ll be able to read Okitegami as God intended. i myself don’t intend on skipping any volume and will indeed read at my own pace, without feeling obliged to continue due to any circumstance. i know that some volume has in the cover Okitegami on a wedding dress with Kakushidate being the spouse, and i’m quite a bit curious to see where that leads, at least. i’ll also trust you when you say V3 has a good mystery, although i’ll still take a while to read that.
I started playing Omori just one of these days, but I don't love it just yet, especially because of the gameplay. I'll give it another try eventually, though, and I'll be weighing in you recommendation, considering how similar our tastes are for videogames.
yeah, i don’t judge you on disliking the gameplay, lol. i myself only liked the game as much as i did due to the story execution, the gameplay was only bearable, and got very annoying by the end where i really only wanted to see where the story would go. play it whenever you feel like, of course. hope you enjoy the story being told. gameplay you can dislike as much as you feel like, hehe.
Episode 8 was also the one that did it for me, with Gurren Lagann. I didn't like the third arc a whole lot, but that second arc is a masterpiece, few things I was ever so invested in. Gainax and Trigger have produced a lot of my favorite anime, I've watched most of all their anime, Karekano is there on my favs, Kill la Kill is really close and I haven't even finished it. Shouldn't be a surprise at all! they're so good!
indeed, the Gainax/Trigger style of shows is just so unique i can’t help but appreciate them. i intend on watching karekano eventually. whenever I do, i’ll tell you what i thought about it, but for now, there are still some Trigger anime i have to watch. i never finished little witch academia(even though that’s mostly due to the fact i wasn’t enjoying it) and i gotta watch bna someday. and, whenever you finish kill la kill, also tell me your thoughts on that, i’d love to read it!
Gainax (Gurren studio) went bankrupt and most of the staff went to Trigger (founded by them), but Gurren's rights are with Trigger now I believe. Right, Uchuu Patrol Luluco is also by them, and it's a good contender for the 10th spot in my favorites anime list, though I need to rewatch it to make sure. Back when I watched it, though, it was a 10/10 to me. Do watch it one day. Gridman season 1 was pretty good as well, Kiznaiver used to be one of my favorites (though I didn't like a whole lot rewatching it), there's Eva, Cyberpunk, Medaka Box I guess (though the director follows Shaft's style for the best episode(s), actually, and there was very little OG Gainax staff left).
God, that’s a lot of shows, lol. Gainax really made lots of classics, right? i haven’t watched even half of the shows you mentioned there, but i feel like the mere fact i recognize all of them say a lot about the impact they had. again, i’ll prob watch them eventually(and in the case of eva in specific, rewatch it, since watching eva in 2018, when i was, like, 13 or 14, didn’t do wonders for my experience), and when i do, i’ll write a few paragraphs telling you what i thought about them, as per usual, lol.
I've discussed P3 with a lot of people, and I'm sure I'd like it, but I think I'm good with the series for now, and I would first play Portable rather than the Remake. I even like the movies! especiallly movie 1. But yeah, wait too long for something I'm not liking as much as P4, if I do play it'll be at a different time in my life.

Reminder that the team's next game is a metroidvania already deep into development, though graphically I thought it pretty disapointing. Just kind of a weird, greenish palette. But there's a good chance it'll be great, no reason it shouldn't be the next celeste.
wait wait wait, how did i not know that?! ok, went to watch the trailer to form any type of opinion, and… looks rather promising. graphically, although i do prefer celeste’s art direction, i really didn’t mind the greenish vibe it had, and it seems hella fun. kinda excited for when it releases(according to the trailer, 2024, but Silksong and N1RV Ann-A have taught me not to trust release dates from indie developers). i’ll definitely play it, and hopefully enjoy whatever is in the game
And hey! I wouldn't ever read the Monogatari novels past the point of the anime! As much as I can I try for my first experience of a story to be with the best version of it, and I've always trusted the staff more than enough to want to wait for an anime -- it can take 10, 20 more years and I won't read the end of it for as long as there's a chance of them getting there. So, with that out the way, knowing we're on the exact same page…
he’s based! although, tbf, i was intending on reading off season before watching the anime, but changed my mind halfway due to how much i’d have to read to do that and because, like you, i came to the conclusion watching the anime first would be way more worth it. we all know shaft will adapt all of monogatari, so might as well wait a bit to get peak monogatari content in the classic shaft style. although i do wish some other nisio series got the attention of the producers, but that’s for another time.
Now NadeDraw is just a masterpiece. Easily one of the best so far, i.e. one of my favorite stories ever. I can't wait to see even more of Nadeko, and of Sodachi, and of Ononoki. It feels a lot, to Nadeko, like what Zoku Owarimonogatari was to Koyomi. Just this very literal metaphor of their progress so far, plus plot twists and incredible art design and directing and animation. Fights felt well-earned to me, just cause there was a lot of strategy involved, right? I see no point in pretending a character we know won't fail is in any danger, kind of the way One Piece handles it. Perfect arc to me.
yes! the metaphor aspect is the part of the arc i most liked as well, the direct comparison between now-nadeko and the other nadekos, especially the og one. about the fights, well, they did feel smart in their execution, that’s for sure. the plans nadeko made were actually very smart and made the pay-off at the end where gaen actually wanted nadeko’s help feel earned. but, idk… i can’t exactly pinpoint what, but there is just something about the execution of the fights that left me wanting something. it’s not even about it being “too easy” in this context, since they most definitely weren’t. i can’t really express it that well, it’s just a very subjective feeling, i suppose, nothing that diminishes from the tale, just a little itch.
Shinobu's arc was the first confirmed Akiyuki Shinbou anime in 14 years, and incredible for that, but the story is again an epilogue for something else, and I hate backstories as a rule, this is an exception, but still far from my cup of tea. But I'm absolutely sure I'll appreciate it more the more we see of Shinobu and Suicide. Had her vessel been any likeable I think that would've helped as well... but anyways, next arc is the last one? maybe? Should be great, as the first Monster Season adaptation.
i really enjoyed the backstory as well. similarly to you, i tend to not really feel like backstories are the most fun thing ever, with few exception, but, also like you, i really enjoyed acerola’s backstory. i have not began watching shinobu mustard yet, i decided to only watch it after all my tests are over, but i’m sure that the relationship between Suicide and Shinobu will be beautifully handled by Nisio, as usual. and, well, if it’s the last on for now, i’m glad. this would give them time to do a similar thing they did in this first part of the season again, do an original order that makes each arc complement each other.
i feel like this is worth mentioning, but i really enjoy how they drew connections between each and every arc. tsukihi undo is connected to nadeko draw and acerola bon apettit is connected to shinobu mustard, of course, but even nadeko draw and acerola bon apettit were choosen in this order for a reason, i feel like, since shinobu was on the last episode of nadeko draw. it’s just very cohesive, and i very much enjoy it.
Good luck to all the people who try to follow this with the novel order, so far they could've watched --- zero... episodes.
oh, let them burn. i can understand wanting to be a purist when it comes to release order, but if you truly are willing to go as far as to wait years for the adaptations to finally adapt the episodes of the first novel thingy, burn in peace knowing you have a weirdly strong will.
ok, segundo o Wikipedia, é あばよ. serve
Yeah, I guess Adachi was sort of unexplored, and I even think Chie and Yukiko, my favorite characters, weren't explored enough, but that incompleteness to me is kind of part of the P4 experience. We don't get a backstory for Adachi, right? We never reallyyyy understand him. I didn't feel like I did, at the very least, but I'm completely fine with that. And those characters are just teenagers, comprehending him was never really their goal.
i can understand this feeling. most of what people talk well about P4(apart from the enormous amount of mythology references) is how the games feels like you are just with your group of friends having fun, and indeed, in a context like that, why would i care about the reason behind his murders? if that's how one sees the game, then that's fine, not something judgeable at all, i'd just prefer otherwise, lol. it's really a case of how one sees the game and interprets it, which is subjective, so it's all ok.
And it's a real shame Yosuke ended up sounding homophobic, a lot of people are deeply bothered by that, I could glance past it, but it was annoying, of course.
i find it even more of a shame knowing the cut content of a yosuke romance route. it would have made so much more sense for him to act like that as a way to deny his own feelings. i think i mentioned this in my last message as well, can't be bothered to check, but i do find the way he acts understandable due to the time and place the story was written in, with japan being a very homophobic country at the time and all. i may not like it, but i can see why it would be the way it is, just find it a shame, really.
A ideia é que me paguem pra ficar 5 anos lá, dando tudo certo.
As always, there's so much to appreciate in every arc of Monogatari -- there has yet to be a single one I didn't like better on a rewatch
Hah, and as I find the ecchi to be tons of fun, having a blast every time I go through the tooth brush scene (which is a full episode in the anime, pretty much, which I rewatched recently), there's really very little for me not to love in Nise, though I think the stories for both arcs aren't as good as many others. Nise is essential to Monogatari because it gives you the option of not believing. Kaiki's worldview is fascinating to me, as is the logic behind the aparitions. The arc is about nothing. There was no magic bee which gives people a fever. She thought she was given a fever, so she fell ill. It's common in Japan to believe that a cold can be transfered via a kiss, so that worked. It's all fake, except of course it's not fake!, that's the premise of the show, this is your third book and the third one was most definitely not fake at all, and yet his logic is weirdly convincing. Because he has seen way more than you have, and it doesn't stop him from thinking that way -- and either way, if he can get some money from it, what does it matter if those things are fake or not. Right, right, and there's all that talk about the fake being more valuable than the real, ripped straight out of Zaregoto. It's pure metaphysics, semiotics, it's deep, and it's essential, and it's great, along with all the character-related things.
i was actually having a discussion about this with a friend recently, about how nise’s main theme becomes actually relevant throughout the story moving forward. now that i read neko shiro especially, and the whole point of hanekawa being a fake playing a huge part into it, i came to appreciate nise even more than i used to. but there is also kaiki’s tale in koi, which is probably full of bullshit in the middle, so much so that… well… he didn’t actually die. i probably need to read more to get a full impression, since my memory on later arcs is rather fussy, but i do get your point on the fake thing, and i appreciate nisio’s way with dealing with that.
Your sister is a fake! A bird killed your real sister before she was born, and it's gonna keep doing that for all of eternity lest we put a stop to it. Let us kill her! She's not real anyways. You'll suffer, but then no one else ever will.
kinda going back to the “upon rewatch you appreciate stuff more” thingy. i find the tsukihi plot even more interesting now that i have watched tsukihi undo in the anime. the whole “being near tsukihi makes you unlucky” plot was very interesting to me. i still don’t have any real conclusion taken from that, since idk where Nisio wants to lead me with that plot, and it’s still a very recent arc in the anime, but i’m interested in seeing how that eventually pays off.
i’ll skip the rest of the monogatari stuff since i feel like i commented most of what i think of the arcs last message, though i’ll touch more on nekoshiro later this message.
ok, so, uuuuuuh… idk if i have a lot to say about this or not, but i sure have some things to say about this
i’ll start with the good, volume 1. the first volume of okitegami is, non-ironically, spetacular
when i first began the series, although i was excited to see a new nisio work, i had my doubts on how the series would go when the main character doesn’t anything. usually a series needs, you know, development to work, and a character like okitegami, that never changes no matter what you do, doesn’t really serve that purpose, so i was a bit worried. but, at least on volume 1, those worries were answered well.
ok, going into the volume itself, the first thing i noticed is that the main narrator was actually someone else, that being kakushidate, and upon reading the volume, i noticed more how the story would seem to work. despite okitegami never changing, we have another main character that is there to change alongside the story so that we can feel the progression, and i loved how his character was done in the novel. i’m not gonna lie, i was more interested in kakushidate’s character than okitegami herself, even though i very much enjoyed how the mystery of her memory loss was laid out for us. we know something is going on, we have more or less an end goal for the series now, which i don’t feel like will be the main focus for a long time, but we have it. but i was down to seeing more stories focusing on those two, their dynamic as a duo was very fun, i loved reading kakushidate’s monologues and i really enjoyed okitegami’s personality. i have to say the mysteries weren’t the best i’ve seen, but they weren’t bad at all. simple, but satisfying. and i especially love the conclusion of the volume, it was very sweet seeing those last interaction between kakushidate and okitegami. so, all things considered, i was excited to read volume 2
that being said… NARRATOR CHANGE, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH. i actually don’t normally have a problem with that, and i thought maybe it would allow for a different tale regarding okitegami, so i did go and try to read it, but, around the time i finished the second chapter out of three… i have to say, i was very disappointed. the mysteries this time were even worse than last time, the main character for this volume, the security guy thingy(whose name i can’t ) is really not that interesting for me, and i was not invested in the plot being written at all. unlike last volume, this one has a more set plot line, with all the mysteries adding to one singular plot point, and i feel like that’s good, but i definitely did not enjoy the plot line. i may be saying all this, but exactly because i feel like that, i didn’t finish the volume, so perhaps i can like whatever is waiting for me in the end of it, but, for now at least, i can’t say i’m a fan.
i only hope kakushidate comes back and becomes the main staple of the series going forward. or at least a character more interesting than little security guard becomes the focus. like, seriously, this is extremely personal of me, but i find him just very bland, especially for a nisio work. we have kakushidate, an extremely unlucky guy who, due to his appearance, is constantly thought of as the culprit in various cases, but needed to grow out of his shell a bit to help okitegami, which is endearing. we have okitegami, a character with a charming personality and funny lines in general with a very interesting mystery surrounding her, which is, again, very interesting. and then we have this five nights at freddy’s security animatronic guard which is just a very serious guy who is having troubles with his job, no real personality trait, no big development and just nothing for me to care about him over any of the other characters, damn, the old painter man is more interesting than him. again, i haven’t finished the volume, so perhaps he does have a development, and even if not, i’m sure someone finds him endearing in his own way, which is completely fine. but yeah, this one was not for me. i’ll finish the volume eventually, i want to see where the story goes, but i’ll leave it hanging for now.
i strangely don’t have much to comment about nekoshiro, it’s just good.
i mean, as i stated, i love how nekoshiro expands on the theme nise brought to the series, and i love the feeling of family this arc has, so ig i do have some stuff to comment about.
going in order. hanekawa tsubasa is a fake, as described by the series. and the way this is treated for hanekawa’s character is very much of my liking. in hanekawa’s case, being a fake makes her more of the real deal than the real deal, but it also makes her stand the furthest away from the real deal. the real deal is flawed by nature, as it is human, but hanekawa hides her flaws behind a mask, and let’s all her suffering go to different entities, the apparitions she created from her heart. that does make her work better than the real deal in some cases, but makes her as fake as can get. and, of course, that’s the arc that actually addresses this.
i really love how the arc acknowledges this flaw of hanekawa as a person. monogatari does have a tendency of deconstructing character stereotypes. senjougahara, the tsundere, has a tangible reason for being one and, as times es on, she let’s go of this personality trait. nadeko, the meek little shy girl, is obligated to get out of her shell, which makes all of her emotions explode, although she does eventually overcomes it all. and it’s the same with hanekawa: the perfect class president, which, let’s be honest, isn’t normal.
hanekawa tsubasa: the girl of mismatched wings, is a sentence that’s repeated a lot in the series. so much, in fact, that you get bored of it after a while. but, the bigger nuance behind the name, for me, is the reason why she has mismatched wings. of course, her original surname wasn’t hanekawa, but her given name was always tsubasa, so, when she was born, she was simply a girl with wings, someone who could fly freely around the world. but, as her family changed more and more, her surname also changed, and this crack in the family department is the reason why hanekawa has her mismatched wings. i already commented this on my thought on S1, but rereading the series, the more and more i notice the constant theme of family in many of the arcs of the series, and i feel like nekoshiro did it the best.
hanekawa doesn’t have a well structured family, one may argue she doesn’t have a family at all, and that’s why, the one moment her “parents” acted like an actual family, she felt jealous. this jealousy creates a tiger, and tiger that represents both her jealousy towards well structured families and her wish to have an actual family, which just makes her development into accepting the apparitions she created as her own family all the more compelling.
you commented on the letter from hanekawa to black hanekawa, i think, and it did live up to the expectations, it was genuinely beautiful to read. in many cases, accepting yourself, flaws and all, can be difficult, but Nisio managed to portray this so beautifully with hanekawa. now she can bitch about stuff :D
as usual, many parts of the story are very metaphoric, hanekawa getting her own room, representing her finally becoming her own individual. she accepting the apparitions as family, representing both her desire to actually fix her situation regarding family and self acceptance. the tiger itself is a metaphor in and on it’s own, quite like most apparition on the series. it’s just so deep
i do have a positive bias for the arc simply due to the fact that i can relate to bits and pieces of hanekawa, and also because i just love hanekawa way too much, she’s my second favorite character behind shinobu. but i don’t feel like this bias detracts from the quality of the arc.
…ig i did have a lot to say about the arc… huh.
truly a beautiful arc, i have to say. i’ve been stuck on mayoi jiangshi for a few months now, but i’ll finish it eventually. everything at it’s own time
i’ll leave this one short, since i don’t know if you played omori or not. if you haven’t, i highly suggest you do. it’s not a short game, but also not a long one. depending on your play-style, it takes 20-30 hours to finish it, but i have to say it’s worth it
just some small comments in the off chance you played it, no spoilers of course, in case you haven’t played it. i love the cast, very endearing bunch with very interesting arcs. i love the story, it’s very rare for a story to make me care so much for what’s going on, but the way this story is told can only be described as beautiful. the gameplay is not my thing, but it’s creative enough to be enjoyable, and the good soundtrack helps with the gameplay not becoming too stale(even though it does a bit).
great game, highly recommend
i have to say, i was surprised to see you’ve watched gurren lagann. thinking about it, it makes sense, it’s a very popular show, but still surprised me.
either way, the show is amazing.
just talking a bit about my experience with it. at the beginning, although i was having fun with the story and characters, i have to it i was underwhelmed with the story. simon was a very boring character in the beginning, and although kamina always stole the show, i was never the biggest kamina stan. i knew eventually simon would have to step up his game and do something, and so he did. after episode 8 or so, i was completely sold on the story. kamina’s death and the eventual rise of simon as the leader of the daigurrendan(which i don’t really the name in english, since i was mostly trying to watch the show without subtitles, with the exceptions of some key episodes which i knew i had to fully understand, like the last few). and, surprisingly, this was one of the shows that better did a portrayal of grief after the loss of a loved one. one thing i usually don’t really like in anime is that, usually, a big speech is all it take to get someone from 0 to 100, because that’s not usually what happens. even series that pride themselves on their portrayal of human emotions, like mushoku tensei(which i really don’t like, as a side note) fail in that regard, but gurren lagann? simon had one amazing depression arc there. isolating himself, with mia trying to help him even if only a little bit, and the others knowing that, in the end, he had to get up by himself, and so he did. the actual moment simon got out of his shell and took upon the responsibility bestowed upon him, i was cathartic. and from then, the show only went uphill for me.
the end of the first part was very good as well. i loved how the spiral king was not really the big villain we thought he was, and there was way more mysteries than we first envisioned. it made the second half feel more earned than otherwise, and actually make the spiral king feel like a believable individual instead of an empty husk of a villain only there for the good guys to beat. it made everything more cohesive and beautiful, i feel like.
in regards to the second half of the show, i gotta it most of the nuance went above my head, but i feel like the main message was beautiful. the daigurrendan sacrificed everything, mia was lost(which, btw, is the saddest moment of the show for me, i was actually broken seeing this, i loved mia and specially her relationship with simon), many died, but it was all worth it, because, despite their flaws, humanity is worth it, humanity has the potential for better. i really like this train of thought, and i loved it’s portrayal in the show.
i probably have more to comment, but i’ll leave it at that for now. one of the best shows i’ve watched. extremely cathartic, very well made, amazing cast, amazing ost(which i listen for time to time), amazing theme exploration and some very great metaphors with the whole drill stuff(which, again, went over my head, but i do know it’s supposed to be a metaphor, lol)
and, as another side note, i did watch kill la kill as well, which i think is from the same team, despite not being the same studio(?). i may be wrong about this, but the point is: i did watch it. as you haven’t finished the show, i won’t comment, but i liked it as well, just not as much as gurren lagann.
i’ll leave this one brief as well, since ik you haven’t played the game yet. but, i gotta be honest here, and i say this knowing you have watched the movies and didn’t like them much. it’s really worth it.
i had a similar experience with you in the movies, i actually watched them before playing the game and thought they were extremely meh(still do, in fact, though i respect them more as a fun little extra after playing the game). but really, the game justifies itself very much even for someone who watched the movie. the story, although with the same plot points, is way better told in the game in general. there are little stuff the movies do better, but since the movies are extremely undercooked, they end up feeling cliche or just underwhelming. as an exemple, watching movie 4 after playing the game gives you a whole new perspective on this part of the story, while, as you probably experienced, just watching it makes it feel extremely dull.
as for the game itself, apart from being my favorite story in persona so far, it has fun gameplay. i gotta say i prefer p5 simply due to being a sucker for it’s style, as we discussed before, but i really respect everything p3 does. the SLs are mostly fun, with a few exceptions. though, p3 is probably the entry with the most divisive SLs, having some of the worse and some of the best the series has to offer(kinda like P4).
overall, enjoyed playing the game, and i do recommend it to you, since you enjoy the series. it’s a long game though, so, if you do play it, go at your own pace.
strangely enough, as much as i like hollow knight, i don’t have much to comment about it.
my favorite part of the game is how, even if unintended, you can create your own path on how to beat the game. deepnest has, like, 3 entrances. you can beat the mantis lords and then get in from that, or you can get jumpscared after leaving queen’s garden(which is how i got into deepnest, genuinely one of the most scary experience i’ve ever had in a game). and this applies to most areas, honestly. you can literally finish the game having not explored many of the areas, and i love this design choice. it gives you liberty and little context to what’s happening, you really need to try hard to understand the actual lore behind what’s happening, and i particularly never cared much, since my favorite thing about this game is the gameplay experience.
i also love the art style for the game. that’s extremely personal, of course, but i just find it so endearing. cartoonish and creepy at the same time, in a way.
just a very well crafted game.(path of pain is amazing, btw, and i never actually did pantheon 5, so i don’t know anything about the godhome ending, lol)
since i read celeste was one of your favorite games as well, i had to comment on this amazing work of art
i’ll try to divide this on sections, since i have way too much to say about this game. so uuuuh… story, gameplay, modding scene. that works, right? maybe, we’ll see
story:
i feel like the first thing i should comment about the story is how universal it is. as in, despite the fact that madeline is canonically trans, the situation she’s in and the message behind it is something everyone of us can feel, and not only the people in the same situation as her.
we all have our hardships in life, our mountains to climb. what differentiates us is how we approach that mountain. do we climb it? do we just leave it be and give up? do we leave it hanging for now and try to climb it later? if so, when is later? so on and so forth. the way celeste handles this simple metaphor really makes the story shine for me.
having to quite literally face madeline’s other self during the mountain makes this even better imo. during the climb, we see madeline reject her other self over and over again, fight against it, run from it, and what does that bring her? down, it makes her lose all the progress she had till now. only when she actually faced her other self and mades piece with her was she able to climb it all, in probably one of the most cathartic chapters in any game, the summit. words can barely express how exciting seeing the number go down as you climbed the final area was. a countdown to victory.
i simply adore the way celeste shows the character overcoming her issues, or at least taking the first step to overcome them. i’m a sucker for tales like this, what can i say?
also, theo is a bro and the grandma is very funny. chapter 9 made me a bit sad about her, but it broke me even more with it’s difficulty(very good chapter, btw).
gameplay:
although the story of celeste is already amazing, for me what truly sells the game is the extremely fun and precise gameplay. celeste is extremely simple mechanically, dash 8 directions, climb a certain amount, walk, jump and over. but the intricacies of each movement is what truly seels it for me. what to jump large directions? dash diagonally to the ground and then jump, you keep the momentum, hyper dash. want to dash, get momentum, and keep your dash? wavedash. want to climb indefinitely? neutral jump. want to go further but also jump high? super dash. want to get a huge all boost? wall boost. and it’s even better that many of this techniques are intended in the game, so much so that the level design is built thinking of it, simply brilliant stuff.
my favorite part of this is when the developers acknowledges unintended trick, like the demo dash, and put them in the level design after the fact. chapter 9 has a literal demo dash room, and various speedrun only skips. gotta appreciate the work of this team.
modding scene:
recently i’ve been playing some celeste custom maps on my free time, and i gotta say, i love the work the community puts into them.
i played into the jungle, the beginner lobby of the spring 2020 collab and the first part of the D-side for chapter 1(i suffered a lot doing that, too many spike jumps…). idk if you actually played custom maps, but, considering celeste is also a top 5 game for you, i highly suggest you try some in your free time. depending on the maps you , they aren’t that hard at all, and can be quite easily beaten in a few 30 minutes sessions. if you want to actually play hard levels though… good luck with that, lol. i still think those grandmaster-esk maps are pure insanity.
i just really appreciate everything behind this game. the community, the story, the gameplay, everything! simply a unique work of art that we’ll never see anything quite like again.
as i’m writing this, nadeko draw just ended in the anime, so ep 6 of off season. so, i will comment on everything that’s out. according to your mal, you’re on ep 3, so i will be talking about some spoilers expecting you to know about them. i feel like you read the novel, so it’s not much of a problem, but, still, just in case, here’s your warning.
for tsukihi undo, i think i commented on most i wanted earlier. it’s a fine arc, with a funny punchline in the end. but, honestly, it works better as setup for the actual amazing arc, nadeko draw.
nadeko draw is such a well crafted tale for nadeko. confronting her past selfs, and in consequence creating peace with the nadeko she is now. i actually got myself thinking how much i changed over the past few years while watching it, i don’t think it’s something we tend to take notice of. like, really, if i compare myself from today from the me of last year the difference will already be quite clear, imagine comparing myself to who i was when i was 12. this was kind of off topic, but i still think it’s an interesting thing to think about that kinda connects with the arc in question.
ok, continuing. i love how the different versions of nadeko have different views on modern nadeko and how those views actually affect modern nadeko and influence her growth. flirty nadeko says what she’s doing is embarrassing, wrath nadeko says that she’s doing in against her own will, and if it’s too much of a pain she should just stop. of course, in the grand scheme of things, those are things that are not necessarily true, but it’s for nadeko to face those words that came from herself. but it’s even more beautiful how she reconciles with the other nadeko’s. flirty nadeko saves nadeko and shows her actual for her dream, wrath nadeko thought alonglise now-nadeko to defeat god nadeko. and, of course, the scene in the end where she reconciles with meek nadeko, or the og nadeko from bake.
it’s interesting to see the direct comparison of how much nadeko has grown, or maybe changed would be the better word for it. and the scene itself of their reconcile was so gorgeous to look at i just have to give props to the animators and directors involved.
if i have to complain about a singular thing of this arc, is that it felt quite easy at some points. it’s well done, don’t get me wrong, but i feel like the older monogatari brought the story to a bigger limit. like, in nadeko draw, nadeko had to confront them one on one, and each confrontation came to a close in just a few minutes, and the last boss only took a simple anime speech to actually beat. it works, it’s beautiful, but that’s it. in hitagi end, for exemple, kaiki had to try and deceive nadeko, fail, almost die, and actually try, in that extremely precarious situation, create a way ouy. it feels threatening, and it makes the actual conclusion all the more cathartic. the same with many other arcs. most bake arcs have this formula, nise not as much due to it’s nature, but nekokuro has and so does nekoshiro. fuck, even tsukihi undo has it, but nadeko draw just… kinda happens. i do understand it’s the type of arc that doesn’t need that, it’s meant to be more serene and introspective, but it made it feel too easy at points. still very good, though, loved the conclusion of nadeko in this arc. i’m kinda looking forward to an arc where nadeko cooperates with gaen and ononoki.
overall, so far, the off season is very strong, looking forward to the shinobu and sodachi arcs.
oh, wow, i sure as hell took my sweat time to write and send this, huh? i won’t even comment on how long i took from actually beginning to write this to finishing it. procrastination is a bitch, is all i’ll say.
although i might have mentioned this in my review on backloggd, it's the same for me, lol. though, unlike you, i feel like my favorite character of the entire game was kanji. i loved how his character portrays acceptance of oneself, even if others tend to reject that self(which is a main there throughout many character arcs, but i really like how it was done for kanji, for some reason. maybe bias from just finding him fun as well). otherwise, i really liked yukiko, specially when she was being a complete goofball and laughing at stupid shit(i find it funny because i also do that :D), i enjoyed Naoto and Rise almost equally, i think. Naoto had that whole cool detective plot line going for it, which has a similar theming to kanji's, and i liked it, just not as much, and Rise's plotline was fine, ig? i find the conclusion to it underwhelming, but i find her personality funny at times. i'll be honest though, i didn't care much for chie and yosuke doing my first playthrough, lol. i kinda neglected their SL until later in the game, and by then it was already too late. i found yosuke's mild homophobic behaviour, although understandable due to the context the game was written in, a bit annoying, and ig chie just didn't struck a cord with me. i'll definetely replay the game on a later date, years from now, so i'll check their SL during gameplay then(i have seen them in youtube videos and such), and i'll probably draw different conclusions from my first playthrough, but that's the state from now. i feel like i'm forgetting a character to talk about, aren't i? well, probably just my imagination, tehehe...(i just find teddie annoying, there's nothing big to it. i don't even dislike his character arc, i just don't like his interactions, it's completely personal)
The Adachi twist was predictable, and the handshake twist is bullshit, just like how the fake Nanako death is garbage writing and the gods at the end come out of nowhere, though overall the Adachi mystery is pretty fun with the modus operandi.
i agree with every single word written here. idk if i mentioned it in the backloggd thingy, but i do enjoy adachi's character after the reveal. i was severely curious as to how they would explore the mentality of an assassin in a game that's deeply related to finding the truth and had a murder case going on for the last 60 or so hours, and, although i didn't like how that exploration was handled in general, i did have my fun with adachi as a character(i especially love the way he just calls the last boss a little bitch. he calls a literal GOD a little bitch. that cracks me up, ngl). though, i still feel like they could've done so much more with his character. it feels like they left him a bit unexplored by the end of his dungeon. this i know i mentioned in the backloggd thingy, but i truly thing the dialogue they had with adachi was very superficial and could've been much more deep. an exemple would be the discussion the team had with one of the bosses in persona 5 strikers, if you played that(i tried leaving it ambiguous because i don't know if you actually played it or not).
I'm constantly listening to the OST even now, and not replaying it for now has added a lot to my experience, though I'm likely to do that at some point in my life.
damn, yes, the OST is masterful. although that goes for every persona OST, the one in P4 is really amazing. you mentioned liking the final boss due to music and visuals, and i couldn't agree more, specially on the music. 霧 is just such an amazing song, i genuinelly listen to it almost everyday while studying(together with stuff like nevermore, long way, heaven, snowflakes, heartbeat heartbreak... you get the gist). and on the replaying side of things, i do agree that not replaying it, specially for persona 4, adds a lot to the experience. the ending really gives that "goodbye" feeling. although the experience is over, it will never be forgotten and such.
i feel like, if i ever replay it, i'll play the og P4 instead of golden to see if i like it better, but i'll leave that for future me to think about.
The combat in P5 is a huge improvement, even if the game is too easy. It's the most fun turn-based system ever (not counting, like, Undertale), and the UI is ultra stylish and the OST is very good, even if not as good as P4 or the P1 vocals.
tbh, i like persona 5's combat mostly due to style points, lol. it's just very cool to look at while i'm playing, so it doesn't feel as boring as the normal turn-based rpg does. honestly, that can describe most of P5, stylish. everything in this game just screams style. you live at a coffee house, while being a phantom thief, with constant jazz music playing in the background, and every single art being very liney(idk if that is a good way to describe it, but i think you get what i mean) it just screams style. personally, i feel like this style is 90% of the reason i love this game, it's simply a vibe. being a coffee boy myself, i kinda wish i could live in leblanc, lol. and yeah, it's not as good as undertale gameplay, but that's besides the point for now.
But I didn't care about anyone other than Futaba, whose dialogue didn't live up to her design and Yuuki Aoi's performance
while playing, my favorite was also futaba, though for all the wrong reasons. though, in retrospect, i do appreciate other characters a lot more, like yusuke, ryuji or haru. though, when it comes to dialogue, i truly feel like P5 didn't hit the nail that well. dialogues in P3 and P4 feel kinda witty. they are juvenile, due to the nature of the game, but you still feel like a person could think and say that. in P5, though, specially in retrospect, although there are some fun dialogue, the important bits feel... dumb. most characters there are dumb, tbh, and the only ones who aren't dumb are treated as geniues in-world(i'll touch on akechi later, but makoto is a good exemple of that), even though they only possess common sense. i still love the cast, don't get me wrong, i feel like every character there is very likeable, and it's probably my favorite cast in persona if you are simply considering it character by character, and not as a group(as a group, i prefer P4's cast, and i feel like P3's cast is the most consistent overall), but they could have done much better with them.
and I cared even less about the story, that only really connected to Haru's arc.
tbf, although i liked p5's story overall, it is a convoluted mess. for me, p5's story is mostly hype, and i like it for that, since... well... i got hyped seeing it. the first arc was actually well executed, i would say, i love how it introduces us to this world, leaving lots of mysteries and actually delivering a satisfying tale, but from there on... everything is so convoluted and kinda forced. not that the arcs itself are bad, they just have really stupid bits, like the house visit on madarame's arc, or the entire morgana plotline on okumura's arc. and, just to touch upon this since i have the opportunity, the big twist of the story, although EXTREMELY HYPE, OMG, just really feels forced and convoluted. akechi is made out to be a genius and all, and don't get me wrong, i love akechi(in royal, main P5 akechi is just ok), but akechi seems dumbed out during this plotline, since a little difference in how he act and he would have won that "game" very easily.
and just to finish this persona bit, since it's taking very long(sorry for that, got sick, so i rewatched joseph anderson's playthrough of P4 and P5, so the games are really fresh in my mind, so i kinda wanted to talk about it) i think shido is a disappointing antagonist, although i like his bossfight. P5's last boss is also bullshit and the third semester is actually good.
ok, on to the next topic
My favorite game is Hollow Knight, followed by Celeste and One Shot, btw, and Undertale would be there too had I not experienced it through youtube videos (apesar de tê-lo comprado, um dia jógo)
Danganronpa's main inspiration is Zaregoto. It's really good, I'm sure you've heard of it.
i always wanted to play danganronpa, i have more friends that like it than i think i normally would, which is surprising... but still, always wanted to give it a try. eu tinha ouvido que era inspirado em zaregoto, eu acho, mas agora que eu sei o que é zaregoto, isso em hypa mais pro jogo, kaka.
E eita, tu vai tentar ITA? boa sorte boa, sorte aí.
eu pessoalmente adoro matematica e fisica
i'm absolutely certain i haven't read even 5% of those. that being said, i would love to read your thoughts about them. they would indeed make for great subjects(even though i probably wouldn't be able to answer to half of what you say, just find it fun to read).
originally meant to be titled Legend of the 1200-year Locked Room, is a masterpiece (I think, 500 pages into it) that kickstarts the Shin Honkaku movement (traditional mystery elements + meta commentary and references)
oh, so shin honkaku was an entire movement. i feel kinda dumb saying this, but i genuinely didn't know.
also, the fact that ryuusei's biggest inspiration is LotGH is, although understandable, being an anime that most people say is a masterpiece, surprises me. always wanted to give it a shot, but never got around to it(and probably won't for a while).
Go to the Zaregoto discord server, I think the translation channel and check the pinned messages, or maybe off-topic, and somewhere there is a transcript of the translation of the Faust short story Drill Hole in the Brain. If ya can't find it, I'll send it to ya somehow. It's insane, absolutely worth the read.
i think i found it, if it's the pin from july 11th 2022 in the fan translation channel, that is. and i'll take your word for it and try reading it. i actually know exactly how i'll read it, i'll tell you in the months if i'm able to get to read his volumes.
though, i will say the trigger warning in Disco 🟊 Wednesdayyy scared me a bit(completely off-topic, but as i was writing this a sugar lump popped in my cookie clicker tab and it scared the shit out off me). either way, i'll tell you whenever i get to starting them, which might happen during april if things go right
Btw, I've watched every single Miyazaki movie for whatever reason but Takkyuubin is the only one I genuinely like and still think about. I'll watch the new one at some point, but I'm really not sure when, nor am I that excited, though rarely are they any bad -- just unmemorable.
i will neither agree nor disagree with you. having watching only 5 of miyazaki's movies, i find them really hit or miss. loved 2, liked 1, and kinda enjoyed 2. i feel like they are all very unique, but sometimes they just don't strike home with me. at least they are all gorgeous to look at.
just to mention, the one i loved were chihiro and kaguya-hime, i liked kimitachi wa dou ikiru ka, and only enjoyed laputa and howl's moving castle
One last paragraph, I've been rewatching Hyouka and now I'm really excited for the Shoushimin Series anime
color me surprised, i didn't know there was going to be a new anime adaptation for a work from the author of Hyouka, i'll definitely be checking that out, Hyouka is one anime i really loved seeing from beginning to end.
i think the only anime i watched from lapin track is sarazanmai(and ig i've watched penguindrum, but not the re:cycle yet). i won't comment much on their quality as a studio, but i did like sarazanmai's production back in the day, so there's that.
and there was a tease for it in the Mono x Zare collab
if you mean that one video where koyomi and Boku talk about a case where yukariki is missing, i've seen it, and i Boku mentioning something like "don't get your hopes up for an adaptation" and koyomi going like "hey, don't say that, they even adapted my adventures, they can do so with yours as well". if not, now i won't see it until i get to experience off-season :D
The day Silksong releases that'll make my year too, and Mono's getting a full adaptation. Hibike 3 is releasing, Madoka 4.
make that 2. silksong will be just as it was with P3R for me, playing it from day 1 during all my available free time. and hibike 3 and madoka 4 are experiences i'll also have as soon as possible(though i'm considering watching hibike 3 after it finishes airing as opposed to during it's airing, but since i'm afraid of spoilers, i might just watch it weekly).
also, just to add to this already long message...
tbh, going into it, i was expecting an experience and got another entirely
i already mentioned my basic thoughts on bake, but just to reiterate: i enjoyed every arc, but my favorites were hitagi crab and tsubasa cat
i feel like hitagi crab is just the perfect introduction to the series, since it puts everything monogatari is going to be in a nutshell. wordplay, interesting dialogue, good theme exploration, interesting characters, some ecchi to spice up the experience, and non-linear narrative, with it happening after the true beginning and all. every one of those qualities would go on to be elevated by n+1 in the arcs(even the ecchi, which is mostly not to my liking, but i can bare it), but the way hitagi crab shows it really helps you understand what you're getting into
but, honestly, i feel like, from there, it starts going down a bit.
i like mayoi maimai, i love how it explores the theme of family, and some dialogue that wasn't in the anime helped even more with it. i myself really enjoyed the silly interaction araragi and hachikuji had, and i specially liked their more deep interactions. their relationship would become one of my favorite points in the story in the volumes to come, with some exceptions, but i'll get to that later. i like how unexpected, or maybe unorthodox, the conclusion was. it really made sense and upped every character in the story being told.
suruga monkey didn't stick with me. i like how it deals with araragi, hitagi and kanbaru's character, but the plotline itself wasn't the most interesting for me. seeing the seeds for araragi's bake character arc being laid was very good, seeing hitagi's reaction to araragi lying to her was really good and seeing kanbaru finally talk with hitagi was also really good, but otherwise, i just liked it.
nadeko snake was the most surprising arc in bake for me. i never cared about it much in the anime, but in the novel i really enjoyed it. the cut dialogue between kanbaru and araragi in the beginning was peak fiction for beginning to end, and the conclusion hit much harder due to how much emphasis was put in araragi trying to save the one who had cursed nadeko, while in the anime it was mentioned maybe once. i do agree with you that the two snakes plot twist was better in the anime due to visual cues, but otherwise, i enjoyed myself more in the novel.
for tsubasa cat though... at the same time i still think it's the best arc in bake, the anime adaptation really upped this one. i loved it in the novel as well, but the amazing performance from the VA's and the OST really brought the arc to another level in the anime. specially for the mountain scene between hitagi and araragi and for the final scene between black hanekawa, araragi and shinobu. overall, still a 10/10, but i got out of it kinda dissapointed, in a weird way.
i have very little to say about kizu, since i think i said most of what i wanted before, but it's the best arc for the first season, in my humble opinion. i love how every single thing in this volume is utilized to it's fullest potential, no dialogue is wasted, no scene is there for no reason, everything connects. one thing i very much like about kizu is how you are expecting things to go to where they were in the beginning of bake, so you are waiting for araragi to have a 5 million yen debt, for kiss-shot to become shinobu, and such. so, when araragi gets the 5 million yen debt initially, you almost calm down, expecting now to only go till the end with no problem, but then things go south and the debt is canceled, which automatically warns you that something bad is about to happen. this type of thing would not be possible were it not for monogatari's non-linear form of storytelling, and i really enjoy this arc for that.
nise, though...
karen bee is probably the arc i least liked from the first season. it's not bad by any means, i just didn't have a lot of fun with it. i love monogatari dialogue, but the fact 50% of the volume was useless dialogue that added very little to the story didn't help. it teases us with hitagi kidnapping araragi for it to spend 250 or so pages just... doing nothing with it. and nise has the biggest annoying ecchi count in monogatari, so that doesn't help. i love the scene with shinobu on the bathtub and the last talk with kaiki, and generally araragi's heartfelt talks with his sister's, but still, doesn't save the arc for me. shinobu's scene is one of my favorites in the entire series though. very vagely and non-chalantly, almost as if it's a punchline, they resolve their problems by simply iting they will never be able to solve them and going on like that, and i love that conclusion.
tsukihi phoenix was better, though. i'll just ignore the fact the toothbrush scene exists, which, in that case, this volume is completely amazing. love kagenui and ononoki's introduction and their dialogue with araragi and shinobu. that one scene with araragi talking to hanekawa on phone and just hanekawa's responses appearing also was very creative, liked it. and the last battle was just very satisfying to see in general. it was a good payoff to the whole "fake" plot-line.
but, by far the arc that surprised me the most was tsubasa family. i expected to just mildly like this arc, but it was easily one of my favorites. the dialogue in the beginning with tsukihi was really fun, and it ironically connected really well with the whole a"black and white, purity and impurity" plotline they had going one with all the panties and what-not. the meta-humor in this volume also was one of the best yet, every single time araragi mentioned not caring if the people who came from the anime hated him for this, i was dying of laughter. the interaction with hanekawa and black hanekawa also were really good, specially the last one. it really struck a cord with me: "YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO FIX IT, YOU WILL FOREVER CARRY THE BURDEN OF THIS MEMORY WITH YOU, THERE IS NOT WAY TO TAKE THAT FACT AWAY FROM YOU, BUT, YOU KNOW SOMETHING?! IT'S FINE THIS WAY" or something like that, i truly loved that dialogue exchange. i mentioned meta humor, but how the author used meta to also make some scenes more powerful was impressive. there was this one scene where araragi was pretending to be a total perv just to cure hanekawa's scar, but the whole time he was making fun of himself for bringing a bad image to him for the anime viewers, but Nisio was able to use it to make the reveal of araragi's plan work wonders, it went something like "i even made myself look horrible to the audience just to trick her". i laughed, i liked it, peak volume, how the hell?
(it shows up so much more in Ningen that I felt the need to make it sound cooler, and I was able to keep the meter pretty much intact, plus the final vowel, took me at least 2 hours)

ok, like, i played persona 5 royal first. and, particularly, although i disliked the og ending, the game was close to a masterpiece for me. i loved the gameplay, characters, and overall story, and, although i look back on it and see the story had lots of flaws, my first experience with it was really great.
futaba's arc really stuck with me in general. the beginning was really well done in my opinion, kamoshida really was a good first villain. and the royal exclusive arc is literally peak fiction, the villain for that is easily the best persona villain i've seen so far in all of the games, and the resolution of the arc, although forced at some points, was really good.
but with persona 4... i played persona 4 golden, and for the first... what, 4 arcs? i was enjoying myself a bit. the dungeons were boring, but the social links were cool. the story was slow, but it had a good hook. tbh, i was having a lot of fun(specially exploiting the combat system). but, as the story ed, i began to get more and more bored with it. tbf, i had been spoiled on the killer(by a youtube tumbnail, at that), so this really made my experience a bit worse, but still, i was not interested in the mystery and even less on the resolution.
i'll take this opportunity to send my backloggd, i wrote a little p4g review there and, although it's badly written, it explains my basic thoughts on the game. https://www.backloggd.com/u/scoot0809/
in general, i liked the beginning, the killer reveal, and heavily disliked the ending and the dungeons
and, so far, p3r is honestly almost flawless. i'll see how it develops, though
and, also, i'm genuinely interested in why you like p4 and why p5 left a bad taste in your mouth. i love hearing other people's opinions on the matter.
Right, and Okitegami has an adaptation!, though perhaps you've already heard about it. A live-action series that covers cases from volumes 1-2, some from v3, some from v4, but with some original cases as well and an all-original ending.
yeah, i did see that, and once i'm done reading the translation so far, i will probably check it out to see how it was adapted. tbh, i'm very interested on how Nisio will create a story with a protagonist that can't change, but that will be an interesting thing to see.
(I read the last 2/3rds of v3 last year in Japanese, and it's a relatively simple read)
i'll take your word for it. well, at least i hope it's not as hard as zaregoto is, since i'm still having a hard time with that. it's fun learning new vocabulary though.
I should talk about that. So, I live in Sao Paulo
If you got an international credit card, straight from Amazon.jp I got the 4 Saikyous for ~220, arrived in 3 days. And one of these days someone in college recommended Surugaya for used books and anime merch, they constantly have shipping fee-free promotions, and earlier this year I got 10~12 books and a Faust volume for 120 contos -- almost everything that's not too recent is just 300 yen, be it a manga, a light novel or an 800-page classic.
ok, that's non-ironically very interesting. i did search for some japanese novel prices in japan(none of which i'm able to purchase right now), and usually they are doable. all 9 zaregoto volumes were about 300 bucks with shipping, i think? they were less expensive actually, but the less expensive ones weren't able to be shipped from what i checked. but knowing you were able to buy a huge amount of books for so little really ups my confidence in online buying japanese volumes. i do have Re:Zero volume 1 in japanese here from my time as a Re:Zero fan, and i did read a bit of it, but perhaps buying some other novels would up my collection.
I'm currently reading JDC too, the first shin-honkaku and some of the biggest inspiration for Nisio, Maijou
i know so little about those series i don't even know what to comment, so i'll ask instead. i do know Nisio wrote JDC Tribute, buit what even is JDC? and i never heard of maijou, so that got me curious as well. shin-honkaku mahou shoujo risuka is one i know, i plan on reading the manga if it's good and the novel as well one day, but i also know little about it, lol.
My favorite Bake arc overall is Mayoi Snail, btw, and I still like Suruga Monkey better in the anime. My favorite Season 1 novel is Nise 2, lol. Maybe you'll change your mind getting there, it's a really fun read.
being almost done with nise 2 as of writing this, although i still prefer kizu, nise 2 is damn fun, i'll agree. in specific, i broke when reading the conversation between araragi and hachikuji about the anime, way too funny usidhfhfdshfdosifhoidshfoisd. simply peak comedy. i'm close to the resolution where araragi finds out tsukihi is a phoenix, now, right after araragi left mister donut and is on the bike with shinobu. indeed a fun read so far, love the interactions between the characters in this one.
The reboot is apparently a completely different experience too, with way less fanservice, no taikushitsu/monooki scene, a lot of new cuts and music, voiceacting -- I'm relatively excited for it.
at the same time i want to see the gym storage scene and don't want to see it in the reboot, but new scenes, OST and voice acting does make me excited as well. i heard it's releasing in the US, but i truly hope it releases here as well, i would watch it in cinema for sure.
speaking of cinema, this reminds me the new miyazaki movie is releasing soon on theaters here in Brasil. probably going to watch it, i like miyazaki's movies from what i've seen, seems like a good time.
Back when it was airing the western release skipped the final minute and a half of the final episode, with the phone and the roses and the kanji for continuation (続), I was like the only person to talk about that, in case you didn't see it, it was there, and it probably means Shaft wants to make more. Perhaps after Mono and Kubishime.
since i saw it mostly on torrent, i did see the "to be continued", yeah. but, i would love seeing more of bishounen tanteidan anime. monogatari is of course the priority, and zaregoto is something i'm more eager to see adapted than bishounen series, but still, as you said, the job shaft did with this anime was so great and so beatiful that i truly wish to see more of it, even if to see more of that beatiful style.
and, yeah, i did see that the titles parody Edogawa Rampo's Shounen Tanteidan. i found this fact extremely funny, tbh. it's truly something Nisio would do and i like that. it's nothing that truly seems to affect the story, outside of laying the base for the cases, but it's a neat little detail.
In Portuguese I'm pretty fast, but well, I do intend to dedicate my life to it, after all.
it's truly a shame that the brazillian light novel market is pratically unexistent. it would be good to have people as dedicated as you on it.
My plan is to infiltrate Brazil's publishing industry and get them to pay me to translate Zaregoto, otherwise I'd be translating Kubishime too, but I'm around your age, lol, it's gonna take a while.
honestly, i was expecting you to be around 23-24, since it's what tl_dr is, i think, but otherwise, genuinely good luck with that. if i ever see someone named kiwioiwik translating a Nisio novel, i'll come here to congratulate you.
In fact it's probably my least favorite Nisio novel somehow? I never expected to like Ningen better than Saikyou, but maybe that'll happen in the end??? I'd give a 6/10 probably
i must say, i'm surprised. although i have no expectations towards ningen or saikyou, in fact, i do believe i'll enjoy them way less than zaregoto, i never thought the idea of giving saikyou a 6/10 was possible, being a zaregoto spin off and all. well, tbf, maybe it's because it's only the first volume, i myself am a believer that nisio series get better as they progress, as was the case with monogatari, zaregoto, katanagatari(so far) and bishounen tanteidan(anime only) for me, so maybe it will get better in future volumes. only hopefully, though.
(Koroshina, killing names, became Nomes que Matam -- not a whole else of note, though)
being very honest here, this episode is probably the best one so far, and by a large margin. understanding more of nanami and her relationship with both her brother and their father really made the entire climax way more impactful. but i'm getting ahead of myself
well, last episode shichika had kinda lost to that little girl, so we already knew he wasn't actually going to win everything, and we also knew that, if he fought nanami, he would be humiliated, but damn...
i was right about nanami destroying the snow village, though i had doubted myself, but seeing her reasoning for it hits kinda hard... specially since it contrasts to the development shichika had until now, of becoming more human by the episode. "perhaps in the beginning of the series shichika would have thought the same way as nanami" is what i thought at the beginning of the episode
of course, shichika becoming more human, the thought of losing to his sister and having to fight her in general is more than enough reason for his slump, and the resolution with togame was hella cute, if you ask me, i love the relationship between those two.
and, well, knowing that shichika and nanami's father tried killing nanami, and that that was the reason shichika killed him... damn... that hits hard. in fact, everything relating to nanami's character hits hard
she was so strong she had to utilize other's techniques to be able to withstand her own body, she literally couldn't die, no matter how much she suffered. although i'm not happy she died, i can understand why she wanted to. and, in the end, it was simply the most tragic tale in katanagatari so far, genuinely heartbreaking. i was dead after finishing the episode.
also, i started ep 8 yesterday, and i'll try finishing katanagatari 'till friday, or else i'll take literal months to finish it, since friday persona 3 reload releases and i will play it day 1. wish me luck on finishing it, an episode or two a day and i'll be able to.
Nisio is way too lucky with adaptations -- people talk about how well Shaft's style works with his works, and it is absolutely true and I'm personally just as much of a Shaft/Shinbou fan as I am a Nisio fan
relatable. it's actually impressive how many works of Nisio got adapted and how many of them are masterpiece productions. i haven't watched neither medaka box nor juuni taisen, but i'll be damned if i wasn't stunned by the level of quality in every single Nisio adaptation i've seen, simply makes be want to see shaft adapt even more of his works. maybe okitegami, since i began reading volume 1 a few days ago, but perhaps risuka or densetsu would be more interesting in general, specially since i know zero about them(or just a zaregoto sequel, hehe).
About Bake! I know that Suruga Monkey was my favorite arc in the novel when I never even valued it a whole lot my first time watching the anime
i will say, that's surprising. i found that my anime arc ranking was actually rather similar to my novel ranking by the end of bake. i will it i prefered suruga monkey in the novel, and maybe i'm biased since i was never the biggest kanbaru fan(though i'm now extremely excited anytime she is on page, love her dialogue), but favorite arc is not something i was expecting. respectable, though. my favorite is still tsubasa cat(although it is better in the anime).
tbh, after reading up to the middle of nise, i do agree the adaptation is better than the novel. although, as you also said, the novel is very good for fans to understand the nuances of what the characters are thinking at situations, the way the anime adapts the work really makes it stand out more than the novel itself. perhaps that is due to the fact i'm reading it in english and some nuance is missed, but i feel like the visuals of the anime outshine the narration of the novel. you mentioned the nadeko snake thing, and yeah, i do agree on that end(though i still prefer nadeko snake in the novel simply due to fun kanbaru and araragi interactions).
on the kizu end, i don't if it removed all monologue's, but i do feel like that's the case. i like the decision, but i will say that i left the movies with more question than with the novel. again, it's the idea that the novel really explains well what's going on inside the characters's minds, but the movie is a close to perfect adaptation. my only thing with the movie is that i didn't understand kiss-shot acerola-onion heart-under-blade's character that well there, but that might be because i was 15 at the time, who knows? otherwise, great adaptation!
and once you get to the second season you'll see that there are a lo~~~t of differences between anime and novel monogatari
i'm actually really excited for S2. in specific, i'm excited to finish nise and nekokuro. tbh, i'm not enjoying nise much in the novel. not bad, just rather stale. doesn't help that the nise translation is also, although still good, not on the level of the bake/kizu translation IMO
Oh yeah, have you read the Bake manga? Cause for Kizu it's also a completely, entirely different experience from both anime and novel, with some very relevant additions to the canon
i have read a bit of kizu in the manga, yeah, but the thing is... although i'm not proud of this, the only volume of bakemonogatari i have here is the 13th one. if you know, you know. but i didn't know it was that different. i already had plans to read the manga at one point, just for the fun and because i love great's art style and panneling, but i'll keep that in mind.
bem aesthetic.

I looked into anime again, other than my childhood watches, because I had run out of live action movies of interest. So I've seen most of Shinbou's favorites: Suspria, The Evil Dead, The Thing, The Exorcist, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Return of the Living Dead, Re-Animator. Haven't seen I Know What You Did Last Summer and the JP ones.
Suspria is the best Giallo by Dario Argento, the genre's most famous and prolific director. Try anything he did in the 70s and early 80s, all very similar quality. Some say Giallo is influenced by the German Bryan Edgar Wallace films of the 1960s, which however are still crude comedy and not the violent thrillers Giallo is famous for. Another thing to look into are exploitation movies, created in the same period - e.g. Shaft, "Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS", Cannibal Holocaust or Lady Snowblood. All that then again evolved into the slasher horror of the 1980s. I love my trashy, pulpy, campy b-movies, and it seems so does Shinbou :D
I'm surprised you like Kurosawa but not Kubrick, I deem their style very similar. Both of them are in my all time top 5 director list, which Kubrick probably tops. Give him another chance maybe, e.g. Clockwork Orange is gold.
happy new ano novo, been a while. i've been reading monogatari and honzuki on the holidays and kinda forgot to answer back, mb mb, lol.
either way, to the point.
(again, my favorite moment of v6, it hit really hard)
yes, this moments is amazing. i barely the specifics from it, but i really broke when reading it. the melancholy of Ii-tan never notiving yukariki's feeling for him and just leaving everything on a regretful manner really makes this scene one of the best in the series for me(although i still prefer the end of the volume, where Ii-tan understands he actually wants to live)
My favorite characters are all people who show up for like 2 scenes and then never again (Himena Maki, Miyoshi Kokoromi, Utsurigi Gaisuke, even just Tomo), while I forgot about most of the recurring cast till reading Ningen (I still don't Houko's personality, same with Miiko, Nanananami, Neon)
i can actually relate to that, lol. although i very much love the reocurring cast, the characters that barely appear really do leave an impression, which is weird considering the 13 stairs don't leave thaaaat big of an impression overall, but still. particulamente o gaisuke é um dos meus personagens favoritos da obra, junto da himena. definitivamente grandes destaques da narrativa.

The thing with how Ii is so generic people start killing each other might have been from the final chapter of v4? I wish I ed it right, cause that age always stuck with me, but I can't even guarantee I didn't halucinate it or misinterpreted the translation.
I actually something like this being mentioned in volume 3, though it was not about the murder think, it was about how everyone can relate to Ii-tan because he is such a common person. there might have been something like this in Volume 4 as well, my memory is not the best on ing these stuff, i usually just the general bits and some oddly specific parts(like the conversation in the ending: Ii-tan: "a masterpiece?", Zerozaki: "no, nonsense", for some reason this just stuck with me). i do find it likely for it to be that, though, since we both it being a plot point.
I will reread it one day, and it shall be in Japanese, and I just know I'll be able to appreciate it way better. Just my fuzzy and distorted view of the first 5 volumes is enough for me to consider it at the very least my second favorite piece of media of all time, and it's pretty close to tied with Monogatari overall, so, yeah, I wanna read it again.
Good luck whenever that happens, shall be a great time o7
I bought Saikyou 1-4 from amazon recently, and I should go back to reading it maybe... today, soon after writing this comment.
i'll assume you've read it and ask if it was a good time. i mean, it's Nisio, it can't be a bad time, but still, would be cool to know your thoughts on it.
And Zaregoto has no problems, just features. It's perfect in its imperfection, and its because of it that it achieves everything it did. I actually just love it unconditionally.
i just want to agree with this. yes, that's exactly it, i'll cheer to that
i was pleasantly surprised at that little girl, konayuki. at first i thought everything she said was a lie due to what hitei had said before about the village. i thought she was lying to them about the distruction of the village and actually wanted to lock them there or get help to beat them, but then i discovered the actual truth and it hurt more than i imagined... i kinda expect the one to have destroyed the village to be nanami, but i don't know and neither do i think that's going in the right track, cause she would have picked the sword had it been her... wait, i think i thought of something and i was writing this... i'll ignore it for now.
still, some stuff that happened was nanami, like getting that other sword in 30 min.
and also, i love how shichika is humanazing himself as the story progresses. although, as togame comments, that makes him a dull sword, that process was necessary for the story, and definitely will be interesting to be the results of when i'm done with this story by july(hopefully earlier, but i have a tendency of procrastinating on those stuff)
also, love how shichika finally told togame about what he knows about her. i was waiting for that since the beginning, and it was a sweet moment for them, although i feel like shichika has some lingering feelings on the matter, due to some clues on the direction, but i'll see that whenever i get there
otherwise, still a fun show, not dissappointing at all
NADEKO SNAKE FOI QUASE 50% CORTADO NO ANIME, WHAT DID THEY DO TO THOSE AMAZING CONVERSATIONS ARARAGI AND KANBARU HAD IN THE BEGINNING OF THE AAARC?
but, yeah, non-surprisingly, having araragi narrate really makes you understand the characters and story better, though i do think the anime does the humor better(or at least i laugh more at the anime). being able to understand the process thought behind actions actually make many scenes that were not that good in the anime, like nadeko snake in general, feel much more impactful. the ending of nadeko snake in the anime just felt empty to me in many ways, but reading it in the novel, the construction that happened for it just made it 10x better. even on mayoi maimai there was some conversations that added to the theming of the arc that were cut in the anime, which is sad. the only arcs i truly feel are better in the anime are hitagi crab and maybe tsubasa cat(though the others are as good as or just slightly below the novel), haven't finished rewatching tsubasa cat to conclude that yet, but at least episode 11 was done better than in the novel.
i also gotta say, for the first time i actually noticed how big of a theme family is in monogatari. i might be stupid for only noticing this now, but in my defence, i watched monogatari when i was, like, 15, that was over 4 years ago by now. still, i love how many of the things that happen in monogatari have a close connection to family, since that's one of my favorite themes to explore in all of fiction. i feel like the only character of the first 5 girls(shinobu not included) that has no ties to family in her character arc is nadeko, and surprise surprise, her arc is the worse of bake(it probably has no connection, but it's kinda funny to think about. even kanbaru has some family tied into her arc, with her mother and all).
also, just want to comment how perfect tsubasa cat is. it's the perfect conclussion for araragi's mini character arc during bake, growing to not try and save every single person, putting his own priorities, accepting his feelings for senjougahara, and accepting shinobu in the process, in a way. i know this will be more explored in nise, but i already like the conclusion araragi had with shinobu for now, and am excited to see it being more contextualized in the kizu novel, which i'm reading.
i might comment more on later posts, but for now that's it
But to me it's hard to call it a character study when the characters are all so indifferent to the events. No one cares that people die, no one cares about who the culprit is and whether they'll get punished or not, no one ever changes their mind or personality, except for maybe Kunagisa right at the end of v9.
i'll semi-agree on some characters, but not all of them are, specially Boku. i feel like, although the main traces of each character never change, they keep evolving over time, more in specific Boku, who went from a self-hating bastard who genuinely thought him not being there was better for everyone else to someone who could accept himself and strive for a happy life. the rest not as much, although in some cases like yukariki you can see them changing their outlook and trying to live a different life from the one they were before, but learning more about them made them more relatable, we knew nothing about miiko until volume 6, but learning her philosophy and where she is coming from made her more genuine, hence the character study bit. talvez chamar de character study não seja o mais correto, mas dizer que ninguém muda de opinião em momento algum também não me aparenta ser o mais correto. just my 5 cents, though.
There's this thing with how Ii is so generic that people relate to him so hard they feel like commiting murders
that's actually very interesting and i didn't notice that. i just took it for granted, honestly, lol. mas essa ideia é interessante. particulamente eu não creio que isso precisasse de uma explicação, mas o fato de ter uma é bem vindo, Nisio god
The of the Thirteen Stairs didn't leave nearly as much of an impression on me as any of the of Kyouchirou's Laboratory, I can barely who they were other than Noise, Noise was cool, but, again, I have to reread them cause I'm sure my opinion would change.
yeah, it's more or less the same for me. the thirteen stairs, at least some, did leave an impression on me, noise, emoto(the doctor), rurero(the puppeter) and saito, of course, although perhaps he cannot be considered one of the thirteen, don't , but not as much as the cast of earlier volumes did. as you mentioned, the of the kyoichirou laboratory did leave a larger impressions, perhaps because they constantly appeared throughout those 2 volumes of the arc, while the thirteen stairs really only appeared one or the other for a chapter before never to be seen again. but, yeah, it is a problem indeed
pode ler primeiro dps a gente discute, hehe.
until now, i have to say i'm enjoying the work a lot. it seems like each episode has it's own themes, but since i haven't fully watched it, perhaps i'm missing some stuff.
for starters, i want to talk about shichika, since i've been liking his character a lot.
in episode 3, i feel like for the first time i noticed that the character of shichika really was nothing more than a blade at that point. he just killed the girl, and in a most terrifying scene, just casually said: "oh, togame, i killed her" with no trace of emotion in his voice, as if that didn't matter, and that really struck with me. the character until now was cool, but nothing much. there were a few jokes made on his lack of personality(which i'll talk about later, cause damn, i love the humor in this series), but, honeslty, that was it. but on that point, on that sentence, i knew something more was going to happen, and i'll be damned, it happened.
on ep 5, shichika finally shows a bit of humanity, with some hints of jealousy towards the thought that someone that is not him would take togame, with some hints of hesitation on his fight with the leader of the yoroi pirates, etc. and there was that amazing scene at the end where he notices that he is just as much of a human as he is a sword, and that's exactly what i wanted from his character. simply... peak. loving it, and i do hope we get to learn more about togame soon, and that princess hitei girl.
another interesting thing for me was nanami. i didn't really expect her to be... that strong. sure, ig if i had thought about it a bit, it would make sense, shichika wouldn't just leave his sickly sister alone on an island where anyone could kill her at any time, but still... that caught me by surprise, and i'm really curious as to how this will develop, specially since it seems she is going to the main land now... excited for more.
and the comedy... oh the comedy... IT'S GOLD. episode two went full on meta with how it was joking on story telling, personalities, quirks, character, catchphrases, etc. it almost seemes like Nisio was making fun of Boku when togame said: "a character with no strong personality will quickly lose the attention og the readers", and i was dying of laughter all the way through. on ep 4 as well, the fact that the fight with sabi was completely cut broke me to no end, i was dying of laughter when they were just happly comenting on the fight we didn't see, god was i laughing. and on ep 5 when togame discovers what "cheerio" means... I COULDN'T, THE SCENE WAS SO WELL MADE I WAS DYING, MAN DSIHBFSDHFIUSDHFIUSDHFOIUSDHFOUISD. HOW CAN AN ANIME BE THIS FUNNY? I CAN'T
also, i gotta say, although i didn't like the first villain, all the other... well, not really villains, just antagonists, but all of them were for my liking. they have this kind of complexity to them that leaves the situations way more heavy and interesting to see. even the maniwani fellas got better as the episodes progressed, and that's because i thought i would hate all of them. the antagonists for eps 2,3 and 5 really hit hard on me. ep 4 didn't really have an antagonist, since fight skip, but the maniwani there had me a little engaged on their relationship(although i could swear it was trying to be a parody of those cliche'd teamwork relationships. can't tell, though)
that's an interesting take on the story, i would say. ig it really depends on perspective, in the end. that is to say, how we ineract with the story. por exemplo, when i read zaregoto, i was mostly focussing on the character progressions and character exploration. do meu entendimento, the entire story, be it the murder mysteries or the more battle focused side of the story, was nothing but an excuse to put the characters, more specificaly Ii-tan, in situations where we could see how those characters were and make them grow, so, even when the story completely changed in how it handled itself, i was never bothered, since the character exploration continued intact and just as good as it was in the beginning. so, yeah, perspectiva definitivamente tem relevância nesse assunto.
Aliás, tu leu o volume 10? damn, never thought i would actually see someone who read it come to the light of day. the infamy this volume seems to have in the fandom is so big that it has even become a meme at this point. that is to say: o volume tem tantos defeitos quanto falam mesmo ou só a fandom sendo crítica demais? genuína curiosidade
also, just to go on what you did, i think it's fitting for me to do a little ranking as well:
V9>V6>V4-V5>V1>V7-V8>V2>V3
and, yeah, i do kinda understand the feeling of being able to decipher a word only by kanji, i did do that a few times in my life, and it indeed is a good feeling(although there was always a kanji afterwards where i got stuck and the feeling vanishes, lol). still, perhaps i can actually do it... well, guess i just gotta study more.
also, on other news, i've began the katanagatari anime! devo dizer, amei o primeiro ep. the fast paced dialogue is just so charming, the production is really beautiful and it was very funny. if i had to complain about something, is just that i really didn't like the villain of the episode, muito maniaco pra mim, consegui não. otherwise, i'm looking forward to finish the anime, hopefully it gets even better, and being a Nisio story, i'm sure it will!

ちょいちょいちょい待ってええええ. longer than umineko? i haven't even started the umineko streams(though, non-ironically i'm supposed to start soon, i was just finishing another stream series before) and i already know that's kilometers long! i can't write that much! well, but, reading huh? books i've been reading? books... books... hmmmm, oh, yeah, there are a few. moyses physics volume I, apostol calculus volume I, guidorizz cauculus volume I, Alonso e Finn physics volume I, atkins chemistry volume I... wait, you're not really talking about that, are you? uuuuh... i finished zaregoto 1, ig? i did, right? yeah, i did i did, that did happen, it seems like a huge while ago, tho, but yeah, it happened, it did happen, and ig i started zaregoto 10? did that go anywhere? did it? no, i can't really say it did. i started, then i read a bit more, was enjoying it, jun is incredibly fun to read, but then... what was it...? oh yeah... that week... yeah, that explains it, definitely. all in it's time, though. weird narration apart though, i am still on a quest to read more books, i just can't seem to find the right mood. it's not like i don't have time at all, i just tend to use it with other stuff. hanging out with people from IME, calling my family, calling friends from my hometown and all, yk how it is.
you truly understood the dragon ball hype. yep, everything until the end of the cell saga is so good it's impressive. i particularly find it impressive how much i still like it, but... well, you probably finished the bull saga by now, so you can tell me what you thought of that, lol. definitely one of the sagas ever written. i particularly like it enough, although i think it kinda goes against some of the ideas previously established in the series, specially the cell saga ideas involving the of the torch to the next generation.
perdão, não, soul society não é melhor que dragon ball, EU SOU ENVIEZADO, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH. for real, though, coincidentally i've been watching bleach on the side for a while. eating dinner sometimes i watch an ep or two, and it's hella fun, soul society definitely has soul, no pun intended, and i enjoy it for what it is, ig i just can't wrap my head around how over powered ichigo gets in so little time, bunkai in 3 days was so bullshit nidsnfidnffoisdnf, but that's what i loved about it as well, it was dumb fun for me, and heck, quite emotional at times, which is everything i could ask for in a show these days. also, on the super topic, whenever you get to the tournament of power, please, watch the anime. it's slow, but it's so worth it to view it there.
Bom dia.
the list seems very cool. i watched suspiria the other night and enjoyed picking out different stylistic influences from it (like the lighting, block coloring, and some of the ways of using sound, and particular iconography).
i actually wasnt aware of shaft aoi, buty honestly that makes a lot of sense, as the series you mentioned really dont feel like they belong to shaft's oeuvre (even though something like assault lily does). i did think that some of the compositing/post-processing on the gotoubun ova had shaft's digital vibe on it but couldve just been me reading into it. either way im still curious about ninkoro but definitely much more excited for virgin punk, which looks shafty enough that when i first watched the pv i was like "oh shit is this shaft!".
and yeah i have seen that crystar op, it is nice but i guess im still pining for some full length oishi material. i know he likes his long gestation periods though so i will wait.
also awesome that youre moving to tokyo! is it long term? sounds really exciting. im hoping to get back there at least once this year (hopefully for winter comiket). i hadnt studied any japanese when i went in 2023 and it was only for a week so im hoping to make much more of it next time around.
https://youtu.be/nFZ9WspNMOw?si=vI278JJblxIzCMGW
it is a couple years old and i am p sleep deprived and/or drunk at points so i wouldnt say i stand by everything but maybe it is a fun watch regardless.
interesting about yukio takatsu, i hadnt looked into him before as i guess i dont usually look into op/ed staff that much, and yeah i have seen some of the videogame op's - definitely enjoy them. wait so he's directing a yakuza anime adaption? at which studio?
didnt know suspiria was shinbou's fav movie but ill expedite watching that. yes plz send the list over - in fact if you link the magazine article i would love that (i have like a low-intermediate level of japanese). i know he really likes kon ichikawa so i put a bunch of his films on my criterion channel watch list but havent made it around to them yet.
with the other shows by the aforementioned directors, i include them at my discretion. for me the later sin oonuma shows where he has essentially become the shinbou of silver link only really have a tertiary connection (i do enjoy BoFuri though, just wouldnt call post-shaft). i think i have include all the post-shaft yase directed shows (unless you were thinking of akebi-chan since he directed an episode). for hatakeyama i still need to check out gancrest senki but for some reason im not expecting it to be v shafty.
fun little story to add: i went to tokyo for the first time in 2023 and actually went to the shaft main offices (not inside though) and it was a v interesting experience. there are some notable objects in the vicinity and a park across the street that feature a number of objects that have been prominently included in various series that they have done. definitely worth the journey to the outskirts of tokyo. i made an experimental vlog of the trip (well my whole tokyo trip but especially the shaft part) but it got taken down from youtube.
hope 2025 is a good year for the studio w the madoka film finally coming out, virgin punk, and ninkoro. also maybe i interpreted it incorrectly but i thought that the final ep of bishounen tanteidan implied that there would be a sequel season but we are nearly 4 years out w no sign so who knows. hoping for 1 more new shinbou-helmed series before he inevitably retires in the near future.
i do have a question for you as a fellow shaft aficionado. have you seen anything involving shintarou inokawa that felt shafty to you? he directed the 2003 Blame! ONA and the direction looks v shinbou and + he worked on a number of pre-Shaft shinbou shows as well as dotto koni-chan.

戯言だけどね(had to say it).
by parts. yeah, I completely agree that his prose is very fluid to read. i myself have such an easy time getting through it, even if some words fly over my head. it just has this good flow to it that it’s hard to explain, but i feel like you get it. also, yes, you did mention boogiepop was your first LN volume, or at least i you doing so, would have to check, and God knows i won’t check our entire backlog of messages that are longer than most Syosetsu chapters. and, true, really the best way to motivate yourself to do something is if that something is very good, perhaps that’s why i haven’t been reading as much recently. as much as i love zaregoto, it is a reread, so i don’t feel like i’m losing much by not reading it all the time, same goes for the other titles, but in their case they are just bad, lol. maybe i should just force a Maijou work in the list and see how it goes, i’d not understand everything, but it’s how it goes. i’ll see, depends a lot on the next few weeks.
EU QUERIA SILKSONG NO GAME AWARDS, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.
it was a very fun experience, i’d say. i didn’t mind the horniness of the game, i myself thought it added to the world, and the general vibe and story is very fun, i’d recommend it if you enjoy the style.
i hope they do it.
I don’t mind it in the owari case, since it fitted pretty well for me. and, from a meta perspective, there was tons of in world time build up! an year or so until Owari 2 released, yeah? don’t know the specifics, but it was around that, so it was a lasting cliffhanger for those watching. still, i see where you’re coming from. i feel like the anime order, ignoring kizu in the final season, is the better one in general, specially in the case of hana after koi, since watching hana before koi gives away the general conclusion of that arc.
oh, araki influenced Nisio… ok, that makes sense, why did i never think about it? but, indeed, it’s all very cohesive. honestly, we didn’t even need those explanations, since people usually brush those things off as just being how the story works, but i find it endearing that Nisio goes out of his way to try and contextualize stuff better.
ok, segundo o Wikipedia, é あばよ. serve
Bom dia.
até a próxima mensagem.
i can understand this feeling. most of what people talk well about P4(apart from the enormous amount of mythology references) is how the games feels like you are just with your group of friends having fun, and indeed, in a context like that, why would i care about the reason behind his murders? if that's how one sees the game, then that's fine, not something judgeable at all, i'd just prefer otherwise, lol. it's really a case of how one sees the game and interprets it, which is subjective, so it's all ok.
i find it even more of a shame knowing the cut content of a yosuke romance route. it would have made so much more sense for him to act like that as a way to deny his own feelings. i think i mentioned this in my last message as well, can't be bothered to check, but i do find the way he acts understandable due to the time and place the story was written in, with japan being a very homophobic country at the time and all. i may not like it, but i can see why it would be the way it is, just find it a shame, really.
i was actually having a discussion about this with a friend recently, about how nise’s main theme becomes actually relevant throughout the story moving forward. now that i read neko shiro especially, and the whole point of hanekawa being a fake playing a huge part into it, i came to appreciate nise even more than i used to. but there is also kaiki’s tale in koi, which is probably full of bullshit in the middle, so much so that… well… he didn’t actually die. i probably need to read more to get a full impression, since my memory on later arcs is rather fussy, but i do get your point on the fake thing, and i appreciate nisio’s way with dealing with that.
kinda going back to the “upon rewatch you appreciate stuff more” thingy. i find the tsukihi plot even more interesting now that i have watched tsukihi undo in the anime. the whole “being near tsukihi makes you unlucky” plot was very interesting to me. i still don’t have any real conclusion taken from that, since idk where Nisio wants to lead me with that plot, and it’s still a very recent arc in the anime, but i’m interested in seeing how that eventually pays off.
i’ll skip the rest of the monogatari stuff since i feel like i commented most of what i think of the arcs last message, though i’ll touch more on nekoshiro later this message.
…eeeeeeeh…afetou…
oh, wow, i sure as hell took my sweat time to write and send this, huh? i won’t even comment on how long i took from actually beginning to write this to finishing it. procrastination is a bitch, is all i’ll say.
na real, pera um segundo…
COMO ASSIM EU SOU MAIS VELHO? ISSO NÃO FAZ SENTIDO.
Bom dia.
although i might have mentioned this in my review on backloggd, it's the same for me, lol. though, unlike you, i feel like my favorite character of the entire game was kanji. i loved how his character portrays acceptance of oneself, even if others tend to reject that self(which is a main there throughout many character arcs, but i really like how it was done for kanji, for some reason. maybe bias from just finding him fun as well). otherwise, i really liked yukiko, specially when she was being a complete goofball and laughing at stupid shit(i find it funny because i also do that :D), i enjoyed Naoto and Rise almost equally, i think. Naoto had that whole cool detective plot line going for it, which has a similar theming to kanji's, and i liked it, just not as much, and Rise's plotline was fine, ig? i find the conclusion to it underwhelming, but i find her personality funny at times. i'll be honest though, i didn't care much for chie and yosuke doing my first playthrough, lol. i kinda neglected their SL until later in the game, and by then it was already too late. i found yosuke's mild homophobic behaviour, although understandable due to the context the game was written in, a bit annoying, and ig chie just didn't struck a cord with me. i'll definetely replay the game on a later date, years from now, so i'll check their SL during gameplay then(i have seen them in youtube videos and such), and i'll probably draw different conclusions from my first playthrough, but that's the state from now. i feel like i'm forgetting a character to talk about, aren't i? well, probably just my imagination, tehehe...(i just find teddie annoying, there's nothing big to it. i don't even dislike his character arc, i just don't like his interactions, it's completely personal)
i agree with every single word written here. idk if i mentioned it in the backloggd thingy, but i do enjoy adachi's character after the reveal. i was severely curious as to how they would explore the mentality of an assassin in a game that's deeply related to finding the truth and had a murder case going on for the last 60 or so hours, and, although i didn't like how that exploration was handled in general, i did have my fun with adachi as a character(i especially love the way he just calls the last boss a little bitch. he calls a literal GOD a little bitch. that cracks me up, ngl). though, i still feel like they could've done so much more with his character. it feels like they left him a bit unexplored by the end of his dungeon. this i know i mentioned in the backloggd thingy, but i truly thing the dialogue they had with adachi was very superficial and could've been much more deep. an exemple would be the discussion the team had with one of the bosses in persona 5 strikers, if you played that(i tried leaving it ambiguous because i don't know if you actually played it or not).
damn, yes, the OST is masterful. although that goes for every persona OST, the one in P4 is really amazing. you mentioned liking the final boss due to music and visuals, and i couldn't agree more, specially on the music. 霧 is just such an amazing song, i genuinelly listen to it almost everyday while studying(together with stuff like nevermore, long way, heaven, snowflakes, heartbeat heartbreak... you get the gist). and on the replaying side of things, i do agree that not replaying it, specially for persona 4, adds a lot to the experience. the ending really gives that "goodbye" feeling. although the experience is over, it will never be forgotten and such.
i feel like, if i ever replay it, i'll play the og P4 instead of golden to see if i like it better, but i'll leave that for future me to think about.
tbh, i like persona 5's combat mostly due to style points, lol. it's just very cool to look at while i'm playing, so it doesn't feel as boring as the normal turn-based rpg does. honestly, that can describe most of P5, stylish. everything in this game just screams style. you live at a coffee house, while being a phantom thief, with constant jazz music playing in the background, and every single art being very liney(idk if that is a good way to describe it, but i think you get what i mean) it just screams style. personally, i feel like this style is 90% of the reason i love this game, it's simply a vibe. being a coffee boy myself, i kinda wish i could live in leblanc, lol. and yeah, it's not as good as undertale gameplay, but that's besides the point for now.
while playing, my favorite was also futaba, though for all the wrong reasons. though, in retrospect, i do appreciate other characters a lot more, like yusuke, ryuji or haru. though, when it comes to dialogue, i truly feel like P5 didn't hit the nail that well. dialogues in P3 and P4 feel kinda witty. they are juvenile, due to the nature of the game, but you still feel like a person could think and say that. in P5, though, specially in retrospect, although there are some fun dialogue, the important bits feel... dumb. most characters there are dumb, tbh, and the only ones who aren't dumb are treated as geniues in-world(i'll touch on akechi later, but makoto is a good exemple of that), even though they only possess common sense. i still love the cast, don't get me wrong, i feel like every character there is very likeable, and it's probably my favorite cast in persona if you are simply considering it character by character, and not as a group(as a group, i prefer P4's cast, and i feel like P3's cast is the most consistent overall), but they could have done much better with them.
tbf, although i liked p5's story overall, it is a convoluted mess. for me, p5's story is mostly hype, and i like it for that, since... well... i got hyped seeing it. the first arc was actually well executed, i would say, i love how it introduces us to this world, leaving lots of mysteries and actually delivering a satisfying tale, but from there on... everything is so convoluted and kinda forced. not that the arcs itself are bad, they just have really stupid bits, like the house visit on madarame's arc, or the entire morgana plotline on okumura's arc. and, just to touch upon this since i have the opportunity, the big twist of the story, although EXTREMELY HYPE, OMG, just really feels forced and convoluted. akechi is made out to be a genius and all, and don't get me wrong, i love akechi(in royal, main P5 akechi is just ok), but akechi seems dumbed out during this plotline, since a little difference in how he act and he would have won that "game" very easily.
and just to finish this persona bit, since it's taking very long(sorry for that, got sick, so i rewatched joseph anderson's playthrough of P4 and P5, so the games are really fresh in my mind, so i kinda wanted to talk about it) i think shido is a disappointing antagonist, although i like his bossfight. P5's last boss is also bullshit and the third semester is actually good.
ok, on to the next topic
i always wanted to play danganronpa, i have more friends that like it than i think i normally would, which is surprising... but still, always wanted to give it a try. eu tinha ouvido que era inspirado em zaregoto, eu acho, mas agora que eu sei o que é zaregoto, isso em hypa mais pro jogo, kaka.
i'm absolutely certain i haven't read even 5% of those. that being said, i would love to read your thoughts about them. they would indeed make for great subjects(even though i probably wouldn't be able to answer to half of what you say, just find it fun to read).
honestamente, boa sorte.
oh, so shin honkaku was an entire movement. i feel kinda dumb saying this, but i genuinely didn't know.
also, the fact that ryuusei's biggest inspiration is LotGH is, although understandable, being an anime that most people say is a masterpiece, surprises me. always wanted to give it a shot, but never got around to it(and probably won't for a while).
i think i found it, if it's the pin from july 11th 2022 in the fan translation channel, that is. and i'll take your word for it and try reading it. i actually know exactly how i'll read it, i'll tell you in the months if i'm able to get to read his volumes.
though, i will say the trigger warning in Disco 🟊 Wednesdayyy scared me a bit(completely off-topic, but as i was writing this a sugar lump popped in my cookie clicker tab and it scared the shit out off me). either way, i'll tell you whenever i get to starting them, which might happen during april if things go right
i will neither agree nor disagree with you. having watching only 5 of miyazaki's movies, i find them really hit or miss. loved 2, liked 1, and kinda enjoyed 2. i feel like they are all very unique, but sometimes they just don't strike home with me. at least they are all gorgeous to look at.
just to mention, the one i loved were chihiro and kaguya-hime, i liked kimitachi wa dou ikiru ka, and only enjoyed laputa and howl's moving castle
color me surprised, i didn't know there was going to be a new anime adaptation for a work from the author of Hyouka, i'll definitely be checking that out, Hyouka is one anime i really loved seeing from beginning to end.
i think the only anime i watched from lapin track is sarazanmai(and ig i've watched penguindrum, but not the re:cycle yet). i won't comment much on their quality as a studio, but i did like sarazanmai's production back in the day, so there's that.
if you mean that one video where koyomi and Boku talk about a case where yukariki is missing, i've seen it, and i Boku mentioning something like "don't get your hopes up for an adaptation" and koyomi going like "hey, don't say that, they even adapted my adventures, they can do so with yours as well". if not, now i won't see it until i get to experience off-season :D
make that 2. silksong will be just as it was with P3R for me, playing it from day 1 during all my available free time. and hibike 3 and madoka 4 are experiences i'll also have as soon as possible(though i'm considering watching hibike 3 after it finishes airing as opposed to during it's airing, but since i'm afraid of spoilers, i might just watch it weekly).
also, just to add to this already long message...
and also...
..hahaha...hahahahaha....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
yeah, i did see that, and once i'm done reading the translation so far, i will probably check it out to see how it was adapted. tbh, i'm very interested on how Nisio will create a story with a protagonist that can't change, but that will be an interesting thing to see.
i'll take your word for it. well, at least i hope it's not as hard as zaregoto is, since i'm still having a hard time with that. it's fun learning new vocabulary though.
ok, that's non-ironically very interesting. i did search for some japanese novel prices in japan(none of which i'm able to purchase right now), and usually they are doable. all 9 zaregoto volumes were about 300 bucks with shipping, i think? they were less expensive actually, but the less expensive ones weren't able to be shipped from what i checked. but knowing you were able to buy a huge amount of books for so little really ups my confidence in online buying japanese volumes. i do have Re:Zero volume 1 in japanese here from my time as a Re:Zero fan, and i did read a bit of it, but perhaps buying some other novels would up my collection.
i know so little about those series i don't even know what to comment, so i'll ask instead. i do know Nisio wrote JDC Tribute, buit what even is JDC? and i never heard of maijou, so that got me curious as well. shin-honkaku mahou shoujo risuka is one i know, i plan on reading the manga if it's good and the novel as well one day, but i also know little about it, lol.
being almost done with nise 2 as of writing this, although i still prefer kizu, nise 2 is damn fun, i'll agree. in specific, i broke when reading the conversation between araragi and hachikuji about the anime, way too funny usidhfhfdshfdosifhoidshfoisd. simply peak comedy. i'm close to the resolution where araragi finds out tsukihi is a phoenix, now, right after araragi left mister donut and is on the bike with shinobu. indeed a fun read so far, love the interactions between the characters in this one.
at the same time i want to see the gym storage scene and don't want to see it in the reboot, but new scenes, OST and voice acting does make me excited as well. i heard it's releasing in the US, but i truly hope it releases here as well, i would watch it in cinema for sure.
speaking of cinema, this reminds me the new miyazaki movie is releasing soon on theaters here in Brasil. probably going to watch it, i like miyazaki's movies from what i've seen, seems like a good time.
since i saw it mostly on torrent, i did see the "to be continued", yeah. but, i would love seeing more of bishounen tanteidan anime. monogatari is of course the priority, and zaregoto is something i'm more eager to see adapted than bishounen series, but still, as you said, the job shaft did with this anime was so great and so beatiful that i truly wish to see more of it, even if to see more of that beatiful style.
and, yeah, i did see that the titles parody Edogawa Rampo's Shounen Tanteidan. i found this fact extremely funny, tbh. it's truly something Nisio would do and i like that. it's nothing that truly seems to affect the story, outside of laying the base for the cases, but it's a neat little detail.
it's truly a shame that the brazillian light novel market is pratically unexistent. it would be good to have people as dedicated as you on it.
honestly, i was expecting you to be around 23-24, since it's what tl_dr is, i think, but otherwise, genuinely good luck with that. if i ever see someone named kiwioiwik translating a Nisio novel, i'll come here to congratulate you.
i must say, i'm surprised. although i have no expectations towards ningen or saikyou, in fact, i do believe i'll enjoy them way less than zaregoto, i never thought the idea of giving saikyou a 6/10 was possible, being a zaregoto spin off and all. well, tbf, maybe it's because it's only the first volume, i myself am a believer that nisio series get better as they progress, as was the case with monogatari, zaregoto, katanagatari(so far) and bishounen tanteidan(anime only) for me, so maybe it will get better in future volumes. only hopefully, though.
relatable. it's actually impressive how many works of Nisio got adapted and how many of them are masterpiece productions. i haven't watched neither medaka box nor juuni taisen, but i'll be damned if i wasn't stunned by the level of quality in every single Nisio adaptation i've seen, simply makes be want to see shaft adapt even more of his works. maybe okitegami, since i began reading volume 1 a few days ago, but perhaps risuka or densetsu would be more interesting in general, specially since i know zero about them(or just a zaregoto sequel, hehe).
Bom dia.
Clockwork Orange is gold.
happy new ano novo, been a while. i've been reading monogatari and honzuki on the holidays and kinda forgot to answer back, mb mb, lol.
either way, to the point.
and, yeah, i do kinda understand the feeling of being able to decipher a word only by kanji, i did do that a few times in my life, and it indeed is a good feeling(although there was always a kanji afterwards where i got stuck and the feeling vanishes, lol). still, perhaps i can actually do it... well, guess i just gotta study more.
