Unfortunately I don't have time to watch anime lately and I've only been reading the new chapters of HxH

About Anilist: I found it more interactive initially, but it might actually be more desert-like than here haha

And I completely agree about having few, but meaningful s, rather than a bunch of people who only exchange gifs and basic automatic conversations.

When I get back with Frieren, I will update you on my impressions, you are the official ambassador of my experience haha

Hello, thanks for accepting the fr ^^

I'm glad you're giving HxH another chance, but take your time and enjoy it at your own pace.

I couldn't watch Frieren this week.

Last week, I finished the "first arc" in episode 10 and I can tell you that I was quite surprised by the moment of quick rupture with the slice of life for a darker context and occurrences, including introducing other elements for the main character.

I also started alternating between here and Anilist, what do you think?

I found the community there for certain animes to be more active, and I also found their website to be more dynamic and interactive than here, almost like an "anime Twitter".

But regardless of whether you have an there or not, I won't abandon it here because I want to keep in touch with you and other cool people I've met.

Hi Hi, I came back to say that I watched the first two episodes of Frieren.

It's still too early to evaluate, but so far what I can say is that I'm enjoying it, it didn't surprise me in a sense that I found it innovative in any way, but so far it's been a very solid reflective slice of life (although not has the depth of other things I've read/is very simple, it's more than enough to entertain and meets the original proposal and its audience), relaxing, I would say "comfy" or "cozy". haha

At the moment I can already see myself giving it an "8", which is the rating I normally give to what I liked (it entertained me enough), but I don't consider it a masterpiece.

Let's see what impression the next episodes will make on me. I'll try to get halfway through this weekend.

In my case I'm someone from the Humanities and while I understand the need to come into with higher works in of broadening horizons and abstraction, I don't think I need to make it all my entertainment.

And I'm sorry if I misunderstood, but it seemed to me that you assumed that my work is not serious and realistic like yours haha

Anyway, it's not like our motivations were very different, I learned to appreciate my silly things as a child and teenager without giving up my intellectuality, that's about it.

I intend to start Frieren at the weekend, as it is a new work that I don't know what to expect so much. Normally the works that I already know I will like and that will entertain me I watch after work or studies. But I want to watch episodes of Frieren in a row if it doesn't "capture" me quickly haha

I love the interpretation of all the HxH VAs, it's one of the aspects I like most in of sound in the anime. And... sad to that Leorio's VA ed away not long ago.

First of all, I'm so sorry for your loss. With you in mind, I'll give Frieren a chance :)

I'm happy that the anime allowed you this discovery and strength within yourself. Pop culture is looked down upon, but it can have that power. Maybe that's why I went back to anime, I had a pretentious moment and delved into academicism and high literature, I gained and lost a lot from it, so now I'm rebalancing things. :)

Well, about HxH again, I don't think it's that accessible of a work, that's why I put it as a niche shonen, which although it explores the dark side of humanity, is not well regarded by some people, it is totally acceptable.

I think your decision is sensible, the moment, mood and disposition are important in the assessment. JJK, for example, was an anime that I left to watch and marathon after the manga ended, away from any and all hype, and I really liked it as a battle shonen, despite being disappointed here and there with other things.
IntentoInsano Nov 6, 2024 3:15 AM
It's funny you say that because that's exactly what HxH did to me. I don't think it's silly because I identify with it, the experience with an anime, after all, is subjective.

But you're not wrong. HxH is not a broad and accessible shonen like One Piece for example. It's a niche shonen, with dark moments and a certain philosophical pessimism that isn't to everyone's taste (although it combines this with the idea of enjoying the moment and the good things of the present despite this dark world we live in).

I saw HxH when I was more mature and in the context of returning to anime after abandoning otaku culture for college literature.

HxH has a special place for me because it was my comfort anime/manga during the worst depressive episode of my life (when I dropped out of college).
IntentoInsano Nov 6, 2024 2:38 AM
Your reaction was unexpected, kinda cute, it made me smile here.

I confess that I was disappointed with your HxH score, but I intend to watch Frieren, so my comment is completely baseless.

Also, nice Fable's review.
