I'm a 56 yo Internal Medicine Physician. I've been an anime Otaku for @ least 20 years, but only recently have I been able to access a large group of titles. The only forms I don't like are Yaoi, preachy environmentalist crap, Lolli, reverse harem, and Yuri. Most Hentai, Mecha, and Bishounen/Yuri leave me cold as well. I'm constantly impressed with the imagination and character development of anime. Even a well drawn anime often doesn't have these, or has a story-line that's incomprehensible. On average I'm pleased with about 90% of what I see. Animation is one of the best ways I've found to understand a culture, it is disarmingly frank and open.

In the middle of the story I thought the main character was going to realize he was gay. that would have explained a lot. I usually like the slice of life animes because they are incredibly insightful. This one is an exception. It did not have the truth and warmth that I enjoy so much.

I haven't heard anything about Hataraki Man, but I liked your (albeit negative) review of it. Not really because it made me interested in the show, but because I'm just starting out in my career and I may be more focused on my career than relationships / friendships / entertainment. The review gave me pause for reflection.
