BL Manga 'Given' Gets Movie Adaptation with 2020 Premiere 391k20

Following the broadcast of the 11th and final episode of Natsuki Kizu's BL manga was announced. The film will premiere in 2020.

The film will be produced under Fuji TV's Blue Lynx label, which focuses on the boys' love genre and primarily works on theatrical animation. This will be the label's second project, with Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai: The Clouds Gather being the first.

Kizu has serialized Given in Shinshokan's licensed the manga under its SuBLime imprint this August and will publish the first volume in February 2020.

The TV anime, directed by Hikaru Yamaguchi (Escha Chron), began airing on July 12 on noitaminA, becoming the first boys' love anime to ever air during the programming block. Crunchyroll streamed the series while it aired in Japan.

That makes sense. There's no enough material for a second season. Well, go Haruki!! I can't wait for what they are going to adapt since I'm 100% sure it's Haruki's love problems. I also hope because it's a movie, it won't be censored like it would be had this been a TV series adaptation. There is one scene that will be very difficult to watch because of it's extremely mature themes and another which is straight up steamy (those 2 roommates). Anyone that read the manga knows what I'm talking about but I feel a movie would allow for those 2 scenes to be depicted with justice.

Am disappointed about Viz Media/Sublime picking up the manga. Their translations are horrible and childish when it comes to BL. I so prefer the accurate, ADEQUATE hard work of fan scanlaters than the schlock Sublime gives us.

This show deserves way more attention than it got. Hopefully the leap in ratings post-airing will get more people interesting in this great show. Hyped for the film.

The problem is two-fold actually: first, a movie is relatively more expensive than a series, owners usually pay for either one, not both, at least not immediately. And second, there's the problem of the content, manga had barely content for a season two, and a movie is like 4.5 eps=9 chapters, so the remaining content is too few to get another season. Maybe another movie in a few years if lucky.

I see, that makes a lot of sense. They probably didn't think it would be popular enough to wait for enough content for another season, so they decided to plan for a movie to capitalize on the audience

Life might be hard, but I want to savour every moment so I'm always hoping that time would go slower but this made me wish for 2019 to be over in an instant.

I just can't wait to watch it and fall in love with Given all over again! ❤

Also, I would really have this to have a second season or SEASONS. After all, they were 「the Seasons」, right? RIGHT? Okay, I'll let myself out qwq

Considering we're safe for next year (movieee hell yeah) I do hope they make a 2nd season. It's not unheard of BL anime getting sequels,even 3rd seasons (Super lovers, Junjou Romantica to name a few). It's popular enough and there is enough manga material so I think it's very much possible,not exactly like Kimetsu no yaiba but still fairly popular. They said the movie will cover from where we left off and put focus on Kaji and Haruki's mess of a relationship so we'd definitely get more explanations and plot progressions if anything else.

For those saying the movie will be rushed,Doukyuusei got a movie and I think it was a nice well-rounded piece that made perfect sense in comparison to the manga. And movies are more expensive to make so why even bother if they can do a season 2?

There is more than enough material for another 12 episodes and the end of the 5th volume would have been an okay ending because I doubt that we would have gotten even a third season. A movie will probably rush and drop a lot.

I had a feeling from the ending there were too many loose strings so I'm not surprised about a sequel (grateful really) but I suppose the manga may not be in far enough? Not sure since I only recently realized the manga is ongoing
