Romance Dawn refers to two separate manga chapters drawn by mangaka Eiichiro Oda in 1996, culminating in the first chapter of the ongoing series One Piece. The subtitle of the first volume of the series is also called "Romance Dawn."

Romance Dawn represents the slow progression of the author's ideas in his desire to create a manga about pirates, whose inspiration was drawn largely from his own childhood interests. While a first-year junior high school student, he began sketching out ideas for a pirate-themed manga in a notebook, in pencil. Years later, as an assistant to Rurouni Kenshin author Nobuhiro Watsuki, he began refining his ideas into what would become Romance Dawn, and later, One Piece. The author made significant alterations to the premise and plot over the course of the three chapters.

It seems like baseline chars get my 8 score which i guess is fine it has to be really dull or annoying to get lower than that. Oh and over 525+ finishes and not a single review this seems a bit sad. Time to check boxes and fill it in.

It's almost the same as the manga/anime opening scenes/chapters. It's a pilot and those usually show how the manga(show) will unfold. Who Luffy is, his basic interactions with Shanks, and how he got his powers, but almost everything else is different but the one constant that i saw that jumped is Nami(Shiruku) is still useless it ...

Mixed Feelings

A mildly interesting chapter of manga for One Piece fans, this prototype story mostly fails to stand on its own merits with so little room to work with. It’s cool to see Oda’s art even more East Blue than East Blue (angular and more in line with his experience as an assistant on Kenshin) but removed from the context of being the first go at One Piece, it mostly falls flat.

Recommended for established One Piece fans only, there’s plenty of aspects that are not fully formed here (Luffy’s character is most apparent) so it can be interesting to see where Oda’s head was at when ...
