Yuugo Hachiken has spent every waking moment of his life studying in order to achieve the highest grades in school. Finally cracking under the pressure of his parents' expectations for success, Yuugo decides to leave his city life and enroll in the rural Ooezo Agricultural High School. However, he has absolutely no experience with farming!

Attempting to utilize the skills he has built through studying, Yuugo begins to pursue the true meaning of having a dream and perhaps discover his own along the way. But life is not as simple as it seems to be, and Yuugo must learn that hardship may appear when you least expect it.

In 2012, Gin no Saji won the Grand Prize at the 5th Manga Taisho Award and the 58th Shogakukan Manga Award in the shounen manga category. Gin no Saji won the first Japan Food Culture Contents Award in 2013 and was nominated for the 19th annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2015.

The series was published in English as Silver Spoon by Yen Press from February 27, 2018 to September 22, 2020. It has also been published in English by Shogakukan Asia since December 5, 2014 and in Polish by Waneko since December 2013.

tl;dr: A manga that has good character development and makes agriculture interesting, but drags on too long and meanders into its ending.

This manga is about a boy named Hachiken who due to having a mental breakdown due to the pressure of trying to keep up academically, abruptly decides to attend Ooezo Agricultural High School. The thing is, having lived in a city all his life, it’s an entirely new world to him. Today's review is that of the second most notorious work of Hiromu Arakawa, "Silver Spoon". A comical, coming-of-age, agricultural-themed manga of which I grew really fond.

Its story revolves on Yugo Hachiken, a kid who following the failling of his high-school entrance exam decides to run away from his family to an agricultural high school at the very edge of Hokkaido, in Tokachi. There he meets a lot of new friends and learns to look towards the future with a smile on his face, unlike in the past.
