This is a really nice series with great characters(and lots of bishounen), especially the main character, Agate, who can perform miracles. My most favorite was Chrome, who is an artificial soldier. There are other artificial soldiers(who are discriminated against), in this action fantasy series that involves war, death, cloning, super powers, and much more.

I highly recommend this to anyone who likes these type of series. It's not a shonen-ai, so both girls and guys should enjoy it.

The only downfall of Cluster Edge were all of the recaps and flashbacks, and thats why I can't give it more than a 8, to make it a favorite. ... I believe this series would've had more recognition and be more popular if it wasn't for all of those recaps. I still enjoyed it a lot though and would definitely buy the dvds if it ever got licensed.

Mixed Feelings

Let's start with the good things: animation and graphics are nice, it's a 2005 anime so it won't look as pretty and clean as modern ones but it's still pleasant to the eyes (or maybe that's just my old school preference bias), if I had to find a down side is that sometimes the bishounen aesthethic is taken to such extremes one might find hart to believe some characters are male; I especially enjoyed the fight scenes, the dogfights in particular, for a story dealing with superhuman soldiers (that don't even appear that much) it keeps things within the realms of reality as much as ... possible. Voice acting too is fine, I watched in Japanese so I don't know about other languages but there was nothing irritating, at least not to my ears (or maybe I'm just too used to Japanese dub). The plot too is good, it's a bit hard to understand what's going on at first (mainly due to the events being all over the place) but in the end it all makes sense.

Moving on to so-and-so territory, the music. Background music is just there, there's no particolar track that struck me and some even reminded me of the soundtracks for other anime; same goes for opening and ending songs, maybe they're just not my genre but I skipped them every time. The characters too fall in this cathegory: the protagonists are fine, one of them was a bit irritating at the beginning but they explain why he's like that so that's fine by me, and there's also some character developement which I always appreciate; I can't say the same about the villain(s) though: they're annoying from start to end, their motivations are boring and there's nothing in their characters that made them even a bit likeable to me.

But the worst thing of all, sadly, is the pacing. The first half is outright confusing, the focus skips from one main character to the other with no apparent logic, and it's not until around episode 15 (out of 25, so more than over halfway) that they start properly explaining things, there's something here and there but it's more questions than answers; thankfully the second part is better, albeit maybe a bit rushed at some points, but it takes some serious willpower to not throw in the towel after the first couple of episodes... especially considering there're 2 (TWO) recaps in just the first 10 (TEN) episodes, and even throughout the series there's continuous (and long) flashbacks of pretty much the same scenes. I'm not going to lie, it's really annoying.

the show was dreadfully boring. I almost shed tears at how uninteresting it was. It was slow, and the fillers were all terrible, and piled with recaps of a ton of not so exciting stuff we already saw ten times.

I already hate filler episodes that are not mainly for comedy, like the fillers in Bleach that went on forever, which was nearly completely unmanageable, if just to see the familiar character's faces, one holds on. However,

Moving on, I watch slow paced anime's like josei, and realistic ones too but this was none of the above it was just a blur of words, and ... female faced guys.

Also, i am quite a fan of pretty boys (bishounen), and close relationships between male characters, even to the level of Nabari No Ou. However, this was just nasty. There was absolutely nothing thrilling or interesting about the relationships you find amongst the characters.

As for the drawing, i felt the artist did a poor job cause i found myself thinking now and then 'that one looks like a chick' for almost every character. The only character that did not quite look female was probably Hema, who was so melancholic and white board a character, i almost shed tears from the sheer nothingness of it all.

The music was nothing special, and the setting was okay. Although i was interested in the planes at first, i still found it to be a bore by the second episode.

not to be a total hater or sore thumb, i ll give the writers and animators a thumb up for putting effort at all, and thinking up the totally great idea of artificial soldiers, and their role in war, which can be juxtaposed to all the strange topics ri in our society today.

Have not reviewed in a long time. hope it wasn't all that brash. .. ;)
