Mob Psycho 100

Eighth-grader Shigeo "Mob" Kageyama has tapped into his inner wellspring of psychic prowess at a young age. But the power quickly proves to be a liability when he realizes the potential danger in his skills. Choosing to suppress his power, Mob's only present use for his ability is to impress his longtime crush, Tsubomi, who soon grows bored of the same tricks.

In order to effectuate control on his skills, Mob enlists himself under the wing of Arataka Reigen, a con artist claiming to be a psychic, who exploits Mob's powers for pocket change. Now, exorcising evil spirits on command has become a part of Mob's daily, monotonous life. However, the psychic energy he exerts is barely the tip of the iceberg; if his vast potential and unrestrained emotions run berserk, a cataclysmic event that would render him completely unrecognizable will be triggered. The progression toward Mob's explosion is rising and attempting to stop it is futile.

✒Keep your Spirits Up 🏋 The Mind is the Ultimate Superpower °8.5° °excellent° 💯%🔍

Who hasn't fantasized about being powerful in one way or another? It would be wonderful to be able to eliminate evil and protect the weak. Shows like mob MP💯 and One Punch Man, for that matter, show us that it's not enough to have the power, one must know how to wield it. The strongest power is that of the mind. Saitama and Mob are the most powerful beings that ever existed. But they're boring. So nobody cares. They are both Pete Sampras.

“Idiots with power are the worst ... to deal with,” we hear towards the end of ep2. But Mob isn't an idiot. He's just shy and sweet. MP💯is a 2016 release that is rated 8.49 on MAL. It is 3 seasons consisting of 12+13+12 24-minute English dubbed episodes with CC available. I have seen S1&2 on Netflix. Apparently, Hulu has S3. In the first episode I didn't think I would like it. Shots of people eating like slobs with food flying everywhere made my stomach curl. The more I watched, though, the more it grew on me. The show is fantastic.

Mob is the most powerful, but also the most humble person alive. A middle school student, he doesn't have enough courage to talk to his crush. He works part-time at an agency that provides psychic services for people being distressed by the supernatural. His boss is a total fake, though Mob doesn't seem to realize it - he's too naive to even think it. Reigen always acts like he's letting Mob take over a simple job when he's actually only giving Mob the jobs he can't handle himself, which is anything that's, in fact, /real/ and not just the imagination of the customer. Reigen will turn out to surprise us. His character has many layers.

Mob isn't the only person in the world with psychic powers. There's evil organizations out there that have been plotting to take over the 🌍 for quite a while. They've been developing powers in people and searching for the most powerful folks they can get their hands on at the same time. As Mob encounters one villain after another, he's always sweet and kind, but he has his limits. The 100 in Mob Psycho 💯 is his meter. If his meter gets to 💯, look out. Just duck and run for cover.

The show builds slowly. We'll meet spirits, evil spirits, other mediums, lots of frauds, and ultimately the big bad villain who's been out to control everything. This is a job for Mob alone. No one else can take this guy down.

Meet the cast. Mob/Shigeo is the prototype Japanese-anime-purehearted-blushing-maiden-male-protagonist. Reigen is Mob's sensei. Yes, he's really a fraud, but he's also a pretty awesome guy. It's complex. Ritsu is Mob's little brother. He's popular, handsome, smart, and athletic. He's the total package. Mob is completely overlookable. Yet Ritsu is jealous of Mob. There are many wonderful and unique side characters, like Ekubo, an Evil spirit tamed by Mob. Now he's a green cloud and looks like a poisonous miasma. Then there's the entire body improvement club. They're certainly driven, but they're great.

MP💯 Opens to surreal animation. The imagination here is, once again, quite astounding. The show fits in the anime and manga universe quite nicely with many running bits and themes that connect it to everything else. Yet it is very much its own thing, and very much the original work of an original imagination. It's just a delight.

People are drawn with simple features and heavy outlines which create a jovial and youthful feel.
Backgrounds are minimized realism with scattered detail but with a broad range of colors and fantastical touches. The art reinforces the vibe. There's loads of creative and fun touches. The rumor-mill generated “White T Poison” in ep7 feels very Walter White and Heisenberg from Breaking Bad. As this production follows Breaking Bad, we can't ignore the fact that “White T” (or Tea) sounds like ”Whitey,” which is so tidy-whitey Walt…. it's possible that BB lent some inspiration to the plot.

Courage is the theme; that and doing the right thing with warmth and humility. “I may have powers but they don't fix everything. And honestly, that's fine with me. I still have a choice. And I control my own destiny. I get to be the protagonist. It's my life. That's why I chose to be here. No matter how much I dislike you, I just can't leave you here to suffer on your own. That would be too sad. And that's why I'm staying.” Mob is even decent to the most indecent of villains.

Mob has the most power. What he lacked was power of the mind. In the end, what helped him win is power: Power of his mind, soul, and spirit. He's a reminder to all of us to keep plugging away, and keep our spirits up.

Mixed Feelings

It seems like they had a good premise going but couldn't execute it well with how Shigeo just effortlessly solved all his problems and cleared all his threats by just powering up to 100% (with zero consequences btw, despite it having brutally harmed his brother in the past) and blowing everything up like some middle of the line battle shounen. For example there's a plotline where his talented brother actually envies him due to his psychic ability; this gets dealt with by giving him psychic powers too and having Mob defeat the generic bad guys trying to hold him hostage. Then Mob unconditionally forgives him ... and Shigeo stops envying him, so basically neither of them truly developed in any way and that whole arc was a complete waste of time. Mob gets to unconditionially go 100% and abuse his powers, and his brother got away with being a piece of shit. I don't get the point of Claw either tbh, in a series with an overpowered MC like that the focus should be antagonists that test him in areas he's deficient in rather than an area he's unparalleled in. That then pushes him to become more well-rounded as a person instead of relying on his powers, which is what I assumed the premise of this series is about.

It's like they're trying to push Mob as an overpowered MC who has to build confidence from within and solve his problems, only he ends up just being a generic OP MC that solves all of his problems and beats the bad guys effortlessly through his epic psychic powers.

Anyway series is still an alright battle shonen albeit no real stakes due to MC always winning with no consequences, could've been amazing had it utilised it's potential.

Mob Psycho 100 (2016)

Who knew that those Youtube videos of fights would be literally the best bits of the whole show. This has to be one of the most overrated 5/10 shows I have seen in a long time. It's just an Isekai without leaving the world, so yes not an Isekai but still the overpowered main, with average friends and people trying to contain him. You do get rage and overpowered moments but then it tries to be funny which the show isn't by making it all comical.

The story tries to be a slice of life but misses out on most of the ... life aspects. It tries to be funny and yet I never laughed. It tries to be full of action but then it is such a small portion of the show and then it has supernatural, yes it does just average in the way it does though. The story itself is pretty dull and it tries to make it seem like there is a point to it all but then there isn't. A slice of life is a slice of life, and a plot is a plot. Trying to do both at the same time just doesn't really work.

The art is oldish, it is comic book style but then boring. It tries to be flashy but it falls down at the last hurdle by hiding mediocre style behind the screen of art style. Characters all sort of feeling dull and it doesn't particularly excite me at all.

The sound should be big, huge, and crazy when they fight but it does nothing. The voices are fine, music is okay but the main thing you want in the fight is lacking. Imagine watching a war film with BB gun noises instead of rifle noises, that is what this is. You can make something look as flashy as you want but if the sound doesn't match then there is no point.

The characters are wide and varied but still dull, boring, and unimagined. Mob himself is one of the most boring protagonists I have ever seen.

Maybe I came too late but then I've watched shows from the 1980s with more excitement than this. Had a read through the source material and it isn't much better. The story is all over the place trying to cover a mass of directions and routes all at once whilst not really doing anything. It is a solid 4/10 in the end for me. The hype train definitely should have gone through this station and not stopped.
